engine swap 1998 silverado

I have a 1998 2wd Silverado that had a 5.0 v8 vortec in it right now and I am wanting to swap it out with either a newer 5.3 vorec or a 5.7 vortec. I want a little more gettyup in my truck and still have it as a daily driver. Can i swap the 5.3? What would it take to swap either one and which would be the better choice?

A 5.3 has a diffeent VCM/PVM setup.
Lot of changing to swap to a 5.3.

Are you sure it has a 5.0 V8 in it?
I do not show a 5.0 for a 98 2w sub.
What is engine code in vin?

I would say 5.7 would be your best way to go.
But on a sub it is hard to get a lot of get up and go.
Lot of weight and big body to get to start fast.
I would be looking for gas mileage first thing.

Sorry about that.
Must have sub on my brain.

The engine swap to a 5.7 would be a lot easier.
The swap to 5.3 would require VCM/PCM change with enine to VCM wiring change.
Also you would need complete engine set up with everything on it.
AC compresser and mounting alt and mounting and may be starter and ign system water pump and ps stuff.

5.0 to 5.7 change the wiring and sensors computer are all about the same.
VCM might need reprogramed or changed to 5.7 VCM.

But on other hand a 5.3 might get better fuel mileage.

Good luck
