Explorer 2005 - Charging Problem

Hello.....

I have a 2005 Explorer XTT 4.0L with 'charging' problem.

Dash display is indicating ;CHeck Charging System' error, and I have a small battery icon on display panel also.

Mechanic checked alternator, and though defective, so replaced with new one. THis did not correct the problem, same issue.

Mechanic checked battery, which was completely drained of power. Replaced with new battery. New battery began to loose voltage, when accessories, headlights, heater, etc were turned on. THat being said, was determined, that the battery was not the problem either ! Removed new battery and returned to store. Charged old battery up to 14.2V, and reinstalled in car. Started car w/o any issues. Ran car about 30 min, but voltage gague showed battery draining again. Completely drained battery voltage during short trip, but was able to arrive at destination at reapair garage. Now in their hands !

So to review: New Alternator and new battery were installed, however, battery continues to drain when in use.

Is their some type of fuse or relay fuse that would cause this issue.
Any help would be appreciatied.

TY

Re: Explorer 2005 - Charging Problem

Restating the problem, your Explorer battery isn't holding a charge and the dash gauge and idiot light confirm that it's being steadily drained. While there may be a fusible link or relay that could be the culprit, I'd doubt the fuse diagnosis.

A couple of suggestions: 1) the new alternator especially if it was a rebuilt alternator or other than an OEM alternator could be defective and 2) you might want to clean the battery ground connection, i.e., the connection on the other end of the wire that connects to the negative battery post.
