daughters car problem

Daughters car has a dual coil 4cyl , I was wanting to find out if 1 coil is bad will it still start just run badly?? As it is the other night coming home and she said battery light came and car died I looked everything over nothing seems loose or disconnected it will crank (not real fast so probly not timing belt) but will not start why I was thinking it may be one of the coils?? any ideas.Don't really want to change 2 coils and a module if it's only a coil.
Thanks for any help
Eddie

Re: daughters car problem

first see if you have spark to plugs you can do this by taking a old but good plug. or you can take plug out of car and ground it to the moter turn it over and see if you have spark? yellow spark no good blue spark good if no spark then it could be bad coil's in coil pack or even module.

Re: daughters car problem

good idea I'll pull wire from each coil and test that way once I get someone else home, they're all at work at the moment. What if I get good spark from one and not other is it just the 1 coil or should both be replaced if no spark on either?

Re: daughters car problem

well pulled a wire from each coil and no spark from either of them so will pull ignition module tomorrow and have it checked if it's good then I'm thinking coils will be the problem

yah it could be only the coil pack or packs. i don't think they can check module unless it's running so trial and error but i think they can check coils and if they check good then i say module but i'm leaning towards coil pack.

good luck....
