2000 stratus egr problems????

My daughter has a 2000 dodge stratus. over 100k miles. Today it started stalling on her. When she would back up or go from reverse to forward. I haven't road tested it yet to see how it runs at highway speeds.

I put it on a code reader and the only code I am getting is P0401(EGR flow insufficient).. Would this cause the stalling problems? Or should I be checking something else.. Thanks for any help

The EGR gas passages are probably plugged, clean EGR valve + passages in the Intake.

If the EGR is stuck open, or a bad gasket would cause hard start, stall, rough idle, and poor acceleration.

A blocked, stuck closed, or blocked EGR passages will be insufficient flow, and poor emissions.

Re: 2000 stratus egr problems????

An EGR valve that is open at idle can cause an engine to stall. The code is for insufficient flow. The valve is not supposed to be open at idle. If it is open at idle and you drive the vehicle and when the conditions are right the computer will ground the vacuum solenoid to activate the valve. Since the valve is already open when the computer is commanding the valve to open there is no change seen from the input of the MAP sensor. So yes you can have this code and a car that stalls at idle.
