Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Today I picked up a new kit from my pile.

It's the Aoshima Mercedes SL63 AMG. It looks like a very nice kit. The kit is loaded with a lot of nice detailed parts, so this would be fun to build!

I got this kit for cheap, because Aoshima didn't put the Brabus wheels in this kit, but the original AMG wheels. A little mistake I think, but it doesn't bother me.

If there wasn't enough detail in this kit, I also bought the HobbyDesign PE set for this one. It contains a lot of nice parts. There are also a lot of wheellugs

I don't know about the color yet, but I think the new Midnight Purple from Nissan would look killer on this car!

Re: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Is it supposed to be some sort of lock washer to keep the brake disks held on?

edit: If you look closely, the instruction says that those are for brakes, and rivets are for them too

Re: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Cant wait to see what you do with this one. Nissans Midnight purple for the V spec is a great colour choice (infact I was thinking that would be a great colour to paint the SL Black when I get one) Zero Paints have a Vspec purple, nice colour but looks mostly black if not lit with good lighting, & it dosnt really have the gold pearl you see in some of the photos on the net

Aren't those the older Midnight Purple II & III's off the R34 Skylines?

Re: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

I made my start.

First I did some work on the body. I removed the orginal grille from the frontbumper, removed the molded mesh in the sidefenders and rearbumper.

I also started with the brakes. I had a lot of problems with those tiny screws and rivets. The parts didn't had any grip on any of my tweezers and they jumped everywhere in my room After a few minutes I decided to not use them anymore The brakes did look good anyway in my opinion. I sanded them a bit to make the surface a bit rough.

I painted the calipers already silver, and I added the AMG logo's on it. Then I glued the parts together.

Now I'll make a start with the engine. I think I'll add some carbon decals on the enginecover, but I also like it in silver.... don't know yet....

Re: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Nice car, nice model, great TK and your work will do the rest !
But I must say I'm really not fan of the color you intend to put on it, it really doesn't fit a mercedes IMO...

Re: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

you'll need some very fine tweezer or try use a wet toothpick, and glue with clear enamel, they dry slow so you'll had plenty of time to position them

Re: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Yesterday I started with the engine. It looks very simple, but most of it won't be visible. So I decided to not add any detail, but only paint the engineblock and detail the enginecover a bit more.

Painted it silver and added a layer of smoke.

The cover had to be painted silver, but I didn't like it this way. So I added some CM carbon decals on it and clearcoat it. After that I painted the tubes in black and added some small decals. A PE mercedes star was added to finish it.
