Completed: Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG (R230)

Everyone,

I just barely completed this wonderful kit from Aoshima (hopefully they'll do CL or CLS next). The kit went together without any drama whatsoever, so it's highly recommended. I am actually thinking about getting the Brabus version plus Aoshima PE set next in Candy Red

The model itself is mostly box stock with added SMS CF for front and rear diffusers along with rear spoiler. I painted it with TS-14 Black (it reminded me not to ever do another black car ) and TS-33 Dull Red for the interior.

Couple of improvements that I did:
- removed all chrome plated parts (muffler tips, grille, and wheels) and used Spaz Stix.
- the rear lights came pre-painted, but it's not dark enough, so I used XF-19 smoke mixed with X-27 Clear Red to make it more realistic.
- interior panels are CF-ed
- BMF on some interior pieces
- PE seat belts

Different background to show how hard it is to clean dust off black cars

I hope you all like it, thank you for looking!

Wow! Very well done (and clean).

I guess the kit features working springs, have you got any troubles with the stance?

Anyway, bravo !

Very nice and clean buid.

This is a very nice car and drives very well also, even more is you put the optional AMG Performance Package with LSD at the rear axle.

Congratulations.

Robi and Dadimix,

Thank you for your comments, I have no problem with the stance, I even installed the springs!

Obarbosa,

I heard that the P030 package makes the ride exceptionally harsh, I think LSD would make it a better track car for sure though.

I know what people who loves MBs in terms of SLs are saying if you want a straight line performer, get SL65 or SL600. If you want a nice grand tourer with the modern MCT transmission and overall package get SL63. BUT, if you want a track car and kick some butt, get the BLACK (I wish Aoshima will do that kit also).

Thank you.

Re: Completed: Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG (R230)

Nice work; I built the kit for a magazine review so I'll show photos when it's published. I should have tinted the taillight insert too.

My model sits fine; the springs really don't give the model much more than about 1 mm of travel. The biggest issue I have w/the kit is wobbly wheels; easy to "pose" them for a photo, all four wheels do sit properly, but I think if I built it again I'd install the wheels to the suspension before the suspension is located to the chassis...it would be much easier at that point to get the plastic axles into the wheels more tightly, and should conceivably reduce the wobble.

Looks good in black! Any pics of the engine bay? Also it seems that the hood does not fit perfectly so that could be something to watch out for.

Great looking model you built there! The black color just looks so good with the red/brown interior. Keep up the good work. Maybe sooner or later someone will dare to convert an Aoshima kit into a Black edition.

Ales,

I forgot to take pictures of the engine bay The hood wasn't sitting correctly on some of the pictures, but I had no fitment issue.

I guess one tiny complaint is the method of attaching headlights and taillights to the body.

Yeah, I was dry-fitting parts tonight, and the taillights don't fit as well as I'd like them to.
