Slight cold start issue

When i first go to start my car the RPMs "chug" around 500rpm when i initially start it but then seem to jump back up to where they should. Once the engine is warm it will start like it should every time. I don't think its a choke issue but who knows. Its not a huge deal but just another bug i'd like to fix.

Of course i made a quick video on this one just to make the diagnosis easier

Re: Slight cold start issue

Just like the symptoms of a bad Massive Air flow sensor,a cold hard start.
But no MAF, check your throttle plate, or choke plate.

Re: Slight cold start issue

Welcome to the wonderful world of carburetors. Mine does the same thing, don't worry about it.

Mass airflow sensors need not apply. :/

Check the automatic choke, and fuel pressure.

You say check the fuel pressure..could running 2 fuel filters be a problem and cause too much resistence? I'm running an inline fuel filter in addition to the one built into the Qjet.

Re: Slight cold start issue

Older Auomobiles had a heat sheild, the hot air rise tube going from the exhaust manifold to the carb would adjust the electric thermomatic choke.

You could probably go with electric cooling fans, and a thermo sensor, so the engine will heat up quicker.

the cold start idle should be 1700rpm. Tap the throttle pedal once should drop to about 1200 rpm ,,, if the engine starts but idles too low this is usually the choke not fully closing on a cold start .

when cold, key off ,,,,check the choke for operation. the choke idle cam does rust and sticks easy. the adjustments should not be messed with if it worked before.

when adjusting the choke plate use a drill bit for about .157 inches to .170 inches .. most likely the electric choke stove is getting weak .
