whining in overdrive

car 2005 impala recently started whinin when in overdrive,no other gears,tranny fluid and soilinide was done 4 months ago,can a cv shaft have a whining sound in overdrive,can't hear anything under the hood with car running when revved up ,no sounds from the pullys altenator ect only when driving and she shifts into high gear,tranny shifts and runs good.

Tough to diagnose from here. Shut the engine off and coast in neutral, sfafely of course, see if it still is noisy. Could be the final drive or internal bearings.

no noise when coasting the car in neutral only when she goes in lock up mode,took her to tranny shop they don't think its the tranny,they checked the cv shafts with the tires off and the drives side when lifted up and down there is a lot of play and noise on the inner joint and loose they say this is giving my whining noise so i'm not sure,pass side shaft is nice and tight lifting it up and down with very little movement.

Never saw an inner cv joint cause this noise, now the issue may be in the final drive where the axle engages, if they replace the axle and it is not fixed what are they going to do about that?
