Convertible Beetle Project Finished! (PICS)

I built these using Revell 1:24 Beetle snap kits. I started working on this project a few years ago (whenever this model came out), long before the convertible Beetle was announced to be released. I stopped before I even finished chopping the top. I started working on it near the end of last summer, and it was an on/off project because of school. At first, I was just going to build one, and I was using an extra kit for spare parts.

I started painting the pink body, but I had some paint problems, so I decided to start over, cut the other body and paint it blue. As you can see, the windshield looks a bit crappy. That's because I stepped on the original one. I had to make a new one from a plastic video game box. I finished it about three months ago.

Once it was finished, I still had most of the parts from the pink one, so I decided to finished it. I sanded the paint down to a decent level. and painted it again. I lost the headlights for the it, so I had to find a replacement for those as well. For anyone else who has this problem, the lights from the 1:24 scale Mini Cooper made by Superior/sunnyside (which can be bought at Kaybee or on Ebay) work just fine.

Oh yeah, for anyone who cares, those are Pegasus wheels on the pink one, and both model bodies were painted using Plastikote paint. I made the seatbelts from tissue paper.

By the way, this should've been posted in the subforum. You seem new though..

No, I'm not new, I've been visiting this forum for about a year now. Just noticed the subforum, though. That wasn't always there, was it?

No, I didn't make the basketball, I bought it at Hobby Lobby. The have a section with dollhouse accessories. You can find a lot of neat stuff for dioramas there, like small scale books, toys, tools, and other stuff.

Yeah, but like I said I started this project a while ago, (may have been 1999), and I had no idea that Volkswagen was coming out with a convertible. I cut the tops back then, and I didn't get back to working on them until last summer.

The pink one has the Cooper lights. They look very similar, but if you look closely, you can see that the chrome doesn't shine through as much on the pink one.
