2010 Equinox door pillar cover replacement

My 2010 Equinox barely has 1000 miles on it and already it has a deep 2 inch scratch (gouge) in the gloss black plastic door pillar on the passenger front door. I've only had a passenger in my car twice, but they closed the door by pushing on the door frame allowing a ring to deeply scratch the highly gloss black pillar cover. I've used Scatch X and other fine cut cleaners, but the scratch seems to be way too deep to completely remove.
Does anyone know how to remove this piece so I can replace it with a new part from Chevy?
How deep could I keep going with a rubbing compound?
Any ideas? I am sick over this. (I know. Things could be worse.)

I have the older style Equinox. The diagram I looked at for a 2010 Equinox looks like it may use a similar setup. Open your door and see if you see any screws on the underside where the "applique" -as GM calls it- is on the door. On the older Equinox there is one 7mm hex-head screw on the top that goes into the backside of the applique and two quick-clips that go into the door that hold it on. There is also a 5.5mm hex-head screw on the bottom that goes into the edge of the outer bottom seal. I'd recommend loosening this screw a little bit because there is a small tab on the bottom of the applique that needs to slide down behind the outer window seal.

Re: 2010 Equinox door pillar cover replacement

Ruley73,
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I am not seeing any screw heads as you explained. Can you direct me to the diagram you referenced? Perhaps, I am not looking in the right direction, or something.
Thanks again for the effort!
