Re: 2000 Ford Explorer fuel problem

Welcome to the forum!

The fuel pump should not be active just by putting the key in. It should run for about a second though when the key is turned to the Run position. It won't necessarily run when cranking the engine though.

Do you know how much fuel pressure you have? Did you observe the flow direction of the fuel filter when installing the new one? Have you tried spraying some throttle body cleaner in to the intake when cranking the engine to see if the engine will in fact run when it has enough fuel?

Re: 2000 Ford Explorer fuel problem

If the fuel system had full pressure, it wouldn't just squirt a little fuel when the key is turned to run, it would flow out like a small garden hose for about 1 second. You might want to check the voltage to the fuel pump when the key is first turned to run. You either have a weak pump, a restriction in the fuel line, a pressure regulator that is completely open (depending on how you're checking pressure now) or a low voltage condition to the pump.

Did you check the fuel pump relay and fuse?
