Antifreeze Leak

I am replacing the water pump on my GMC Jimmy 2001 4.3L. Somebody told me that the engine fan is spring loaded. Is this true ?

Re: Engine Fan

Nope, not spring loaded. There is a thermostat coil inside that regulates the fluid in the clutch. If you look close, you can see the "tail" of the coil sticking out of the clutch. You'll need the special tool to remove the fan clutch from the water pump. Most auto parts stores rent/loan them.

Re: Antifreeze Leak

I didn't find the correct location of the antifreeze leak. The water pump would probably have to be replaced soon anyway. I think I'm facing the same problem as 'kvn4 loosing antifreeze' posted on 11/14/10 with the source coming from the lower intake manifold. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the help.
