Cool Speaker wire replacement

So I've noticed that GM has good ole' 16 AWG wire for the speakers and goos speakers and it all sounds well with my alpine deck.... but upon installing that into my 96 neon, along with 2 nice pioneer 6x9s.... that these little wires and sticky crap isnt going to cut it for the speaker performance i want, so my next option is to replace the wire with bigger wire.... but, is there a better way other than tying it to the end and sort of snaking it to the back of the deck? because, well... i jsut want to replace it so i can get better sound quality. any suggestions?
