1994 Corolla trunk won't open

I have a 1994 Corolla sedan. I cannot open it with key, nor will it open with the inside lever. It worked this morning, but in the afternoon, I could not open it. I had to access my belongings by folding down the rear seats. Any ideas of what it may be?

The mechanism may have come apart or possibly broke.

You should be able to gain access to the lock from inside the trunk. You may have to remove a panel first though.

I just yanked a little harder on the driver side release and it popped open. I lubed the latch and lock and it seemed okay for now.

I have a similar problem. I can open it with the latch but its a no go with the key. At first I thought it was a the key so I had one remade from the VIN number but that didn't help. I believe the lock itself it broken.
