Gearing on TT off?

I just got a 225 6-spd TT. Is it just me or is the car geared really funky? I hit the red-line very quickly... what I mean by that is I can't get to 60mph in second gear. I have to shift to 3rd before it will hit 60. That seems a little odd to me.

It seems like I approach the red line in each gear at a speed that should higher than it actually is.

Anyone else experience this?

I have had the 180 TT and a 1.8T A4 and a 1.8t Jetta and none of them have the same issue.

Maybe that's just Audi's way of keeping the torque curve smooth.

The 6 speed VAG 02M transmission is a close ratio design with shorter gearing than normal. 1st gear is about average, 6th gear is actually shorter than the average 5th gear on 5 speeds. The reason for this is usually to keep your revs on the right powerband. Maybe necessary for low torque- high HP motors..e.g. Honda Vtec. But I feel it is not as crucial for the 1.8T VAG engine due to it's broader torque curve.
