faster acceleration

hi! what is the best thing to do to increase acceleration speed? i have a 2000 civic dx automatic (ive been told over and over at sucks, but that's what i got) and so far all i've done is put a new muffer and a bigger connector pipe from the converter to the muffler. what do you recommend? thanks!

try an aftermarket intake. don't listen to ppl who say "get AEM or INJEN" because they are jus big name brands, an u pay for the extra little sticker they put on them. but a no-name cold-air intake system will only run u around 50-100 bucks an u can prolly install it urself.

honestly, with that set-up (auto-civic) its going to be pretty tough to get a lot of power w/ out needing a new tranny or converting to a 5-speed. but if ur set on doin this, ur tranny could prolly handle a 50 shot of nitrous (please don't call it naws however). with that, u'd feel a NOTICABLE gain everytime u used it...but it is a little hard on ur motor. jus don't listen to ppl who say it'll blow it tho...if u get it install correctly, an use the highest octane fuel in ur area when u spray, u'll be fine...members on this board use it, an they have strong motors to this day.

those are my two votes...they are the cheapest power u can buy for ur car...

Smaller wheels and tires will help acceleration. Stock size is 185/65x14", so you can try 185/60x14" or 195/60x14" or 185/55x14". The intake and larger diameter piping will take torque away which helps in accleration.

an aftermarket intake won't take torque away. its gains power throughout the power band...(not much, but a bit)

u'll see gains at higher rpm w/ the short ram version of intakes, but w/ a cold air, u'll see more lower end power. it'll be around the same gains, jus w/ a different noise.

my two votes ,
cold air intake- dont get the bypass valve its useless. Youll get better throttle response, and the car will sound much better.
higher octane fuel- i use sunoco 94
