I am biased to Hondas...but for many reasons...

This is one reason why I'm not a Ford fan:

I know it's not a Probe, but I think if they did such a bad job on the Focus, then what's there to make me think they did good on others?
...and since then, there's been more problems, more findings.
I talked to a guy that was one of those cases with the engine compartment fires...let me tell you, it was not pretty. Total destruction.

I am starting to like some of the old muscle Fords....they can be fast devils....but the more current Fords I have to wonder about...

Meanwhile, I think the del Sol is a fun lil car, gotta love the removable targa.
If you're gonna get a Sol tho, I'd recommend '95+... more features, like lockable trunk release, improved weather seals, power locks, etc.

...take care of a Honda, it'll last you a loooooooong time. 300k mi. Fords from what I hear will last you 200k mi if you take care of them, 100k mi if you don't.

I know it may not help you much....
good luck....

PS...just curious what makes you think that coming into a Honda forum, you're NOT going to get a biased opinion....everyone here I bet loves their Honda. I know I love mine, there is very little in the world I would consider trading it for.

why post on a honda forum and then tell us not to be biased? of course we're going to be. But only because honda is better. But if you're thinking about paying 4500 for a high mileage s model you might wanna think about sticking to a ford... I hear they're a little slower over there... just kidding seriously though I bought my 94 VTEC model with 100k on it for $4600.

yea probes have like all mazda parts so there not even like a ford.
its not like im looking at del sols. its just that my mom said she found a nice car and wanted me to come look at it. it was that del sol i told u about. i was origianaly looking at civics. i love everything about that del sol except its not fast stock. i love the probe because it is fast stock.

If ya get a VTEC it's pretty quick stock, then do a tighten here, a turn there, and a cut there and it gets a little faster... then do a bolt on here and an aftermarket there and you can usually bust out 14s

Something tells me that you will never forgive yourself if you go with the Probe. I think that generally most people consider the Delsol to be a much better car in many ways. Just do what are good buddy Emily did, and find an exellent deal on a Vtech Sol, which won't be easy, considering that the Vtechs are hard to come by in the first place. Emily, did you just luck out or something? How did you find such a good deal? Did it take a lot of searching? I wish i could come by such a deal.

VTEC*, not Vtech

and about the sol, I just snooped around on autotrader. Keep in mind that you're not gonna find a flawless sol for that kinda price. The carfax report on my car is a mile and a half long. But luckily everything's being fixed by me, so it's fun.

dude.. get a del sol S model for like $3000, then swap in a b16, b18, or H22... for about $6000 you get a sol with a badass engine, and to make it better your insurance company has it registered by VIN#, so it's lower cause they think it's an S. Think about it...

What she said...but I wouldnt get an H22 unless I'm going to make it a drag car... b16 or b18 IMO.

The probes are not bad, I have a 1994 Mazda 626 LX with a 145k miles on it with out any major issues. The 626, MX-6, and Probe share a lot of parts, especially the engine. One thing I know atleast is the automatic transmissions in those cars have issues sometimes, (atleast the mazdas) especially if not well maintained. (I have a 5 speed I-4, my trans is going great w/ original clutch!) The one thing with the motors in those cars, they are pretty quick and get their power without being reved to high heaven.
Maybe check into an MX-6 I think they have a real slick body style and can stay competitive to some of the VTEC Hondas. I think you could be able to get them for that price range.
For the selection I am neutral to both, the honda probably is a little bit better, but the probe you could haul more people then the Del Sol. All in all I would chose none of the above and go with a MX-6.
