Newbie Cav Help, plz!

I had a couple of quick questions about several mind wrentching problems and noises about my 2000 Cavalier 2 Dr, 2.4 Lt. manual tranmission. I'm pretty much a car n00b so I'll do my best about explaining my situation.

First question was about a noise that just happened recently with my braking system. When I brake quickly and hard there's a loud drumming sound (thunk thunk thunk!). The car doesn't vibrate, from what I can tell. It's recently been sitting for a little less then a month because I had no tag for it. I'm not sure if I have ABS or not.

Second question was with a slight rattling noise whenever I'm in first/second gear when I'm accelerating quickly. It comes from the front of the car and someone mentioned it might be a loose tire/rain guard underneath my car.

Third question was about my squeaky suspension. It was happening about 2 months ago but stopped and now I rarely hear it. I was worried it might come back and kick my car caring behind. Whenever I hit a slight bump (speed bump, pot hole, a friend) a squeak sounded till the car settled itself.

If anyone can offer some input before I take my car I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Re: Newbie Cav Help, plz!

Is that standard feature "normal"? I love my cavalier but when the winter comes... I rather don't move it. That noise from the abs scare me.

Re: Newbie Cav Help, plz!

ABS vibrates when you brake because it is pulsing the brakes. I pulsates them 60 times per second which you will be able to feel/hear when you hit the brakes on a slippery surface or if your tires are crap. If that is what you are feeling it is normal, if that's not it, get your car checked out by a pro.
