System suggestion

Alright guys...I've come around a little money and I am going to want to hook my new audi up with a system. I am going to be honest and say I don't know anything about how to install amps or subs or what is involved in installing them. I already have a good head unit to use, however I want to get the subs and amp with about $500 to play with. I would like the ability to hear the bass hittin round the block sometimes, however the most important thing is the sound quality. Getting back to my head unit, its alright, but its getting a little old and if anyone could suggest something good that would be great. I want it to be easy to control the bass levels quickly. Sorry for this incoherent rambling of a post, but thanks for reading it.
O yea, I forgot the most important part. I will be down in the Orange County Area this weekend, however I live in Santa Barbara, so if anybody knows any good places to get thje system installed, that would be good. And I also want to ask thoise who have subs bolted down in the trunk, what do you do about the spare? I want to get mine bolted down, however releasable if the spare is needed.

well... if you are going to do it all yourself you can put a decent system together with that. Look online to get some deals... i got all my stuff @ Sounddomain.com (highly recommend). If you only have 500 to play with then i would stay away from high end stuff of course. My opinion MTX have some REALLY good quality amps for a reasonable price. I say that know that a lot of higher end stuff will beat the pants of MTX but i think its a good bang for the buck. Kicker has some good subs.. it all depends what kind of sound you want. I had a 15" Rockford fosgate and loved it... you could hear me down the block but the problem was that it wasn't a clear sound... i have (2) MTX subs and they don't hit as hard but u can still feel it. Everyone else will put in input if you get it a little more specific...

Rein,
Not to offend you but the reason you were not getting any reply, at the beginning, is because you're asking for something impossible. You'll need more than $500 to get QUALITY SOUND :jumpie: ...even if you install everything yourself. :buck

$500 for a decent Amp is OK, but without Subs (or the controls and wiring involve) or the other way around (not to mention a new head unit).

Just save up some more, this way you only have to do it once.

If you can find Memphis, then get two of their 12-in HP's, great bass, great sound. The problem you'll have a good amp. My cousin had the subs, but his amp was a little more expensive since it was a class d mono 1000 watt amp. I could feel his stereo 10 ft away from his truck, not just that, but also while I was in my truck with my two 10-in up about as far as I could go. Awesome subs, you might look into JBL amps, I hear they're good quality for cheaper prices.

i wouldnt say $500 is that bad....
i got my system for $750 and its more than i could ever want.
3 12" jl subs with a 1500watt JL amp
all together it was originally about $1700. i got it 3 months used from my friend who desperately wanted money. guess it was just a lucky find.

$500 for sub and amp only is enough to get sound quality. idmax for 360 shipped and an amp for about 150 or so and whala! nice sound quality

Thanks for all the replys. I'm aware that it takes more than $500 for good sound quality on NEW equpiment. I have a good panasonic head and the monster cables are installed in the trunk already, just need to hook up a sub/amp. IF anyone in Orange County, or more closely, North LA and Santa Barbara have any used stuff to sell (I'd love JLs), hit me up.

Did you check out the Elemental Designs deal?

The Amplifier alone is worth more than the price of the whole deal.
They sound great, and ported, you could probably hear them around the block.

by the ways, i put X and Y there because i don't want to spam/advertise on this forum. PM me if you're interested (idmax is a just a tad under the $500 mark)
