Rear Wheel Bearing Installation

Hi,

My left rear speed sensor died out on me and I am going to install a new rear wheel bearing. Does anyone have a write-up/pictures on how to take on this project?

Remove the disk or drum, unbolt the wheel bearing, bolt in the new one,

There are a couple write ups in our tips and maintenance section that could help you or at least guide you through the process.

1) Safely jack up vehicle whichever side working on and use support jackstands to support vehicle for safety.
2) Remove tire/wheel.
3) Remove disc caliper. Note: You do not have to undo the brake hose to the caliper. Just set aside and tie up caliper so hose doesn't get damaged.
4) Remove disc pads and caliper mounting bracket.
5) Remove disc (top hat) rotor. Note: if rotor will not come off easily loosen parking brake cable at the turnbuckle adjuster. Also, you may have to use PBBlaster on the top hat rotor center part.
6) Undo ABS wheel sensor electrical connector to the hub connector.
7) Remove the 4 hub to knuckle bolts.
8) Remove hub from knuckle.

Reverse above to install. Additional notes: Torque hub to knuckle bolts to 55 lb-ft. Recommend using new hub to knuckle bolts if new hub doesn't come with them. Torque 5 wheel lug nuts in a star pattern at 100 lb-ft. Caliper bracket bolts to 92 lb-ft. Caliper bolts to 32 lb-ft.

I appreciate the write-up, but the most important part was left out (Step #9/10) The hub does not just come out once you remove the hub to knuckle bolts. You have to disassemble the parking brake. On the back, there are two star key bolts which holds the assembly together. I thought the hub was frozen but finally figured out the parking brake has to be removed. A 1 hour job turned into a three and a half hour project. Fortunately, I phoned a friend and got the job done.
