Valve cover part numbers
Anyone know the GM part numbers for valve covers for a 97 GTP? I need to replace both as I have replaced the gaskets three times now and oil is still leaking from them. Also if anyone knows the specs on the valve cover bolts that would be helpful too.

Re: Valve cover part numbers
Send a PM to Richtazz requesting GM part numbers and he might be nice to you and provide them.
By specs on bolts what are you referring to? Torque value? Size? When you replaced the valve cover gaskets did you replace the valve cover bolt seals? What brand gaskets were used?

Re: Valve cover part numbers
I'm just referring to the valve cover bolts. As for gaskets I always use the felpro ones and yes I replaced the valve cover bolt seals. I think my covers are warped.

Re: Valve cover part numbers
FelPro is a good brand. I use them. What torque value and sequence did you use? Low torque at 89 in-lb with a torque wrench? They have been known to warp but because they were not properly torqued to the right specs and wrong pattern/sequence on the bolts. I still have the originals on my '97 GTP and no issues.
Do you plan on replacing the bolts?

Re: Valve cover part numbers
Yeah I planned on replacing the bolts as well. And I torqued as specified. However, I ended up cross threading one of the bolts so I messed up the threads on the head. But that was only on the front valve cover.

Re: Valve cover part numbers
Cross thread for strength, right? I hope you didn't mess up the threads in your head!

Re: Valve cover part numbers
Thanks for the help richtazz. I just looked up the price of the covers on gmpartsdirect.com and it will be about $120 for the two. I wonder if I should buy the aluminum ones from ZZP. Anybody buy them before?
