Building a new 385ci SBC for my 1991 Z28

Working non stop to try and get the engine done for the summer, Vortec 880 roller 4 bolt main block, scat crank and rods, SRP forged pistons, Comp 280XFI, brodix heads, HSR etc etc....

Stripping the 355 i built last year.


Bare block.


Washed and out of the hot tank.


Polishing lifter valley and blending oil drainback holes, removing stress risers from the block.

New ARP main studs installed to check the main line on the block, it needed an align bore no surprise.


Brodix IK200 heads, getting ported, and flowed numerous times, will post final flow numbers once i have them.

Had to weld the upper lip of the ports of the HSR to port to a 1206 intake gasket.

Rather than a hackjob mess of fittings, I drilled and tapped the underside of the fuel rails to install the pressure sensor for my gauge

Porting the intake.


BBK 52mm TB, modified IAC motor housing, removed the coolant passage.

Scat 3.75" stroke 9000 series crank.


Scat 6" stroker I-beam rods.

Weighing the rods for when i balance the crank.


The rods after being weighed, small ends honed to 0.0008" oil clearance, and ro bolt stretch done.


Pistons weighed for balance, pin bores honed to 0.0008" clearance aswell, Tolerance for balance is +/- 1g, these needed nothing out of the box, SRP forged -16cc dished, 0.040" over.


Balance card on the balancer. We use a CWT3000 balancer.


Cutting the main caps 0.010" for the align bore.
