G Tech Pro

anyone hear anything about this? It's supposed to measure horsepower, cornering G's, 0-60 times, and other such stuff without having to install any wires. I saw it for ~$250 in a car magazine. It sounds like a crock, was wondering if anyone heard of it or knows if it's any good or not.

Its pretty much a toy. I mean, it will give you estimates on your horsepower and 1/4 miles. It works with a precision accelerometer which measures acceleration. You have to have the precise curb weight of your car and input it in.

it will give you a pretty good idea, or it is good for comparing one car to another, but as far as basing your horsepower or 1/4 mile times on it, its pretty innacurate.

no its inaccurate because its just innacurate.

for instance, for some of the tests, you are supposed to accelerate up through 60mph and then brake to 0mph. well, sometimes it doesnt stop reading accelration, so you can accelerate, slow down, and accelerate again and get more horsepower. a friend of mine has a 94 EX with some boltons, maybe pushing about 140hp, well the GTECH PRO said he had 224 horsepower.

1/4 mile times are about the most accurate reading on them, but still i wouldnt use it to say "i run a X.X in the 1/4", its more of a comparison tool or just to get a rough idea of what you might actually run.

They ususally err a bit on your side. But I'd have to guess the 224 hp guess was when the guy was going downhill.

yeah they are inaccurate. and you need to have the exact measurements loaded into it. it said my friends civic was only putin down 70 hp to the wheels. i have neve heard of almost 50% horsepower loss in the drivetrain have you?

Remember, it's just an accelerometer. Going downhill allows you to accelerate faster, going uphill the opposite. Also, I don't know how well is deals with vertical acceleration (as opposed to lateral acceleration forwards/backwards and left/right).

So only a totally level testing ground will work, and several tests going both ways (just to correct for error) should be taken.

no the guy wasnt going downhill, he accelerated, and then decelerated, and its supposed to quit reading horsepower, but it doesnt sometimes.. so when he accelerated again, it just added horsepower onto the reading....

Also, my brother has a 95 DX civic with an intake and exhaust.. Gtech Pro said he had like 110hp, which is more than the stock motor makes...

I have a sohc vtec with I/H/E/TB/coil/wires/SFCVTEC... GTECH PRO said my car had 90 horsepower. I smoke the DX in a race....even though he has "20 more horsepower":silly2:
