Question vent control

on our 95 windstar it will only blow out of the defrost slots. in the ac mode it should come out the dash. the control knob will turn the blower off and on but won't change locations. any ideas? thanks, rick

I had this problem, and had it for over a year or two until finding out the problem today. First, the problems we experienced were 1. While running the A/C, cool air would come out the defrost vents while really hot heat came out the vent behind the driver-side 2. The only way to get A/C or heat to come out of the dashboard vents instead of the defrost was to turn the all the blowers to "low" and completely shut off the front and back vents, then turn the front control on and leave the fan on low until the air came out the vents then turn slowly to high.

These are just a few of the experiences we have had. The solution was stumbled upon while getting a tune-up on the windstar. I asked the service writer about the problem and for an estimate. He checked out the car and found there was a hole in the rubber-boot above the plentum (spl?) and referred that I go to the dealership, buy the part and put it in myself. I then went to the dealership and to pick up that rubber boot. The were out and so was another local dealership. He checked his system and went in the back room and came back out with a part that was pretty big compared to the boot by itself, however this had the boot attached to it. It was the boot, tubing, and pcv all connected together, and for literally 45 cents more than the boot by itself.

Works like a charm now.
