Wink ABS/Tract Off lights on.

Hey guys! So i'm sure this thread has been up many times before, I got to page 5 in the threads and my eyes were about to bleed so I decided to post a new one! So sorry for posting yet another!
My ABS and traction off lights have been on for hmmmm... i'd say 2 years now lol, I was told a long time ago that it was the TCM but then I had a different mechanic hook it up to a scanner to see what codes it could be throwing and he said it wasn't the TCM because of something can't remember exactly what it was, think it had something to do with the traction off light was on because the abs light was on I dunno lol sorry this was about two years ago, I finally just gave up because I couldn't afford the TCM and personally think the first mechanic was trying to rob me anyway. Everything still seems fine except the abs doesn't work when i'm sliding anymore? Any help or input would be very helpful, I'm just sick of the lights lol!

THANKS!

-Rachel

Re: ABS/Tract Off lights on.

If there are no ABS hard codes stored, the most common cause for the ABS and Trac-off lights to come on is a bad hub bearing. The wheel speed sensors are part of the hub bearings and are not serviceable separately. Do you have a droning noise while driving that sounds like a propeller driven airplane that gets louder as speed increases? If so, then it's definitely a bad hub.

Re: ABS/Tract Off lights on.

What year is your Grand Prix?

Can you get and post the codes? Depending on the DTC(s) which will be Chassis/ABS codes like C1XXX or C0XXX it could the the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module which is very expensive. It depends on what scan tool is used but for GM/Bosch ABS/Traction Control systems the GM Tech 2 scan tool is the only dependable one to use.
