I have to ask...

I've seen some people talking about "flipping" the front motor mounts. What are you're thoughts on this? I know its not actually going to make anymore power, but do you actually feel a difference? I've never seen this done before in person.

Any thoughts are welcome

Re: I have to ask...

Supposedly the two wishbone engine mounts move horizontally when you moderately rev the engine or go for WOT runs. By flipping the mounts that may reduce or eliminate the horizontal movement. Basically a free cheapy mod but you are probably better off with poly mounts. Whether it improves shifting remains to be seen.

Re: I have to ask...

I guess my main concern is...it couldnt really hurt anything could it? I would try the Poly motor mounts, but this mod is free and you cant really beat free

edit: also...on another note. After doing a bit more research I've heard that it will cause a little more "vibration" at idle, or while at a stop sign. So would it feel more less like the car is missing...causing the car to shake a bit?

Re: I have to ask...

My bro tried poly mounts on his eclipse and hated it. 5 minutes with them and he took them off because the car had extreme vibration issues. I'm willing to try the dog-bone rotate because I would guess it'd be somewhat of a happy medium.

Re: I have to ask...

Do either of you race? If not then leave well enough alone. Technically this is a drag race mod and not for your daily driver. When ever you mess with any of the engine/tranny mounts with aftermarket products or cheapy free mods high probability of vibration or other issues.

I've been thinking about this a lot and I think what I'll do is wait until I replaced the lower engine mounts and see how that does before I try messing with the dog bones. If the lower mounts gets me where I want to be then I'll leave the rest. I don't want a racing beast either, I just want a fast DD.

Good point and I agree! I would concentrate on the other engine/transaxle mounts over the two dog bones. You'd be surprised how many GM "W" body car owners have at least one bad one or one in bad shape but holding together marginally. Signs are exhaust system knock on the undercarriage, unexplained vibration that comes in to the cabin and/or felt in the steering wheel or a clunk that you can't pinpoint especially after various suspension/steering parts were replaced but did not resolve the issue.

Re: I have to ask...

Bob, if I didn't know any better I'd think you've been driving my car on the weekends when I wasn't looking.
