Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

Hey guys, well i finally finished what I considered a model worthwhile posting and feeling proud of . I started this build quite some time ago last summer but between work and engineering school didnt really have much time during the two semesters, but slowly i started working on the models and in between taking breaks on the TT enzo that is about 90% done i have finally completed the model. here is the link to the WIP thread i had made.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=962555

Everything that didnt come with the kit is custom built, mostly out of solder wire and aluminum sheeting, but anyways, i'll just let the pictures do that talking, i know it sucks to have to read a lot:

Re: Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

the hood still needs a lining but that will be done when i go back to the store to pick up some extra materials

single turbo, fully plumbed

Titanium exhaust (my first attempt, but came out fairly acceptable)

rubber exhaust hangers just like on my real supra

what do you guys think?

questions and comments welcomed!

Re: Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

Looks like you had to sand underneath the hood for the turbo. I like the motor.

Re: Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

thanks guys!

yea i had to sand quite a bit, lol if i found this problem earlier i would have put a little slit in the hood and have it show through like the supra guys do on the real cars.

Re: Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

just a couple of things:
why don't you paint the underside of the hood?
painted window trim helps "finish off" a model.

It also looks like your panel lines are a bit drowned out in paint to do much to them.
In future builds, make sure to scribe them deeper prior to primer/painting making sure to rescribe them inbetween primer coats.
For the actual panel lining itself, you can try to apply it before your final wet paint coat. Modern paints are transparent enough for it to show through and helps with the shadow effect.

Re: Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

Thanks for the criticism man, thats exactly what im looking for.

as far as the hood, its not finished yet, i didnt have the right supplies to put a heat shielding material like on the factory cars. that will be done soon.

as far as window trims.. im goign to go over the weather stripping with a permanent marker.. but as far as painting windows... that is the ONE thing that i have yet learned to do properly and have messed up 3 window sets... i didnt want to risk this one. I cant seem to mask it just right.. i gues i need more practice.

and on the body lines... i got WAYY to impatient since it was my first good looking model build when i started a while ago... i need to scribe the enxt one and i will def paint them black before the final coat as you suggested.

thanks for the input man, i really appreciate it.

Re: Tamiya Toyota Supra (Single Turbo)

Looks really good to me. Nice stance, wheels and details. Paint job good too. Would be improved by black trim round the windows, maybe next time? Whoever gave you 2 stars was being a bit mean in my opinion.
