Exclamation This part came from my GP (HELP!)

I was driving today, and well make a long story short the passenger front on the grand prix has been banging a lot, it wasnt until i hit a pavement high side and ripped my oil filter out today that i found the issue (imagine getting a oil change on the side of the road located this) and im quite sure they are unrelated

I blame the Gm parts and of course the damn roads,

Not sure if this is anything identifiable, but hopefully someone knows

A. what the hell it is
B. my car SEEMS ok to drive without it, the other one is straight and looks solid on drivers side
c. HOW MUCH im going to get soaked for a part that should have lasted LONGER

sorry if i sound frustrated, pissing out all your oil on a state park road and almost blowing an engine cane do that!

anyone?

ID # can be seen in the photo, i have a very professional camera, maybe i can shove that under the car, will last longer i bet!

Re: This part came from my GP (HELP!)

its a front sway bar...dont drive without it lol. get it replaced before driving the car again. The part should only be around 15-20 bucks

have the alignment checked after installation. shouldnt effect alignment changing the sway bar...but since it looks like that...some other things may have been effected.

It doesn't look like a front stabilizer bar to me. Too short and not the proper form factor. It looks more like a suspension link of some sort.

What year is this Grand Prix?

Ditto!

Although I'm thinking it has to be 97+ because he said he hit on the passenger side and ripped the filter off, so I am thinking 3800 because 3100's have the filter in the front of the block.

Is it from a different car? Maybe you ran it over from an accident scene at night and it got stuck in your suspension. Does your car still clunk without it?

Re: This part came from my GP (HELP!)

The 8 digit part number on the item appears to be a valid GM part number. Described as Link. List price $26.47. But I don't see it in any '97-'03 GP parts listing.

Re: This part came from my GP (HELP!)

The part looks like it is for an '04 and up Grand Prix. It is the link that connects the main stabilizer (sway) bar to the control arm. Redesigned for '04 and up so that probably explains the difference in what we see.

sorry, meant to say front sway bar link. I searched the part number as well and that is what came up. For a 2004+ GP

front sway bar link part# 15236543
rear sway bar link part# 10320234

Wow, excellent investigation skills going on here. I own a 97 and couldn't identify this part as well.

Re: This part came from my GP (HELP!)

I took the time to look at mine on my '08 GXP and mine is straight as an arrow so the one shown is damaged (bent). Also, the two pivot bolts to mount to the main stabilizer/sway bar and strut are missing.

The bottom line is the link is needed and for the cost even GM list I'd buy a new one.

BTW - The link mounts to the front strut and not the lower control arm like the '97-'03 models.

Re: This part came from my GP (HELP!)

The part is from a '04-'08 Grand Prix so lets stop speculating. The OP should have posted the year and a pic from the car where the link is missing.

Just a reminder to all. Be sure to annotate the year and model GP since there are several generations. See our sticky at the top of this forum. See link below. And when a Moderator assigned to the forum asks for year please respond as soon as possible to cut down on confusion, wrong replies/answers or speculation.

Re: This part came from my GP (HELP!)

Since AC-Delco doesn't have a picture of this part on their website, I took a picture with my camera phone of what this part is supposed to look like. The part off the OP's car is obviously severly damaged. AC-Delco part number 45G20592 (GM# 19187114). Front stabilizer link, fits 04-08 G/Prix's.
