even though I am a bigger fan of american design I agree that the TT z would be an awesome car to make go fast, and plus of the import car companies i feel nissan is by far the best in any catagory you can think of when it comes to performance and looks. Go Datsun 240Z.

how much work is it to put a 350 or 302 or 318 etc into the Z?

How much would it throw off its weight distribution?

How much money is the conversion?

Why not go with a Z28?

I vote Z28, very much so LT1....do what you were thinking of, you wont handle well with 65/35 weight distribution, the cost to drop the engine in

*stronger suspension, wiring harness change (real basic for the carberated non computer engines, but still you have to redo the electrical) custom drive shaft, which cant just be cut and welded, it also has to be balenced, new rear end to handle the power, having to custom make and weld your own mounts for the tranny and engine, and having to make the shifter somehow reach the right spot on the tranny, sence the engine is much bigger and the tranny is longer this might be a problem*

If this is your dream, then yah, go for it

But I know you...

your a chevy man at heart ALWAYS, go with the z28 and fix up your low 11 sec nova, hell, put a lil more in and make it run low 10...you know you want to.....

The Swap is super easy, with the right tools you can have it done in about a months time.

Weight, well the great thing is the 350 is shorter in length so it brings the center of gravity moretowards the center of the car. Plus the 350 only weighs 140lbs more than the 2.8l 6 cyclinder.

Suspension can be tightened up easily too.

Oh and the cost, you buy the conversion kit for like 300, cost of a motor, a tranny (which ihave a th350 from the 72), odds and ends

You can probably build a V8 240z for about $4000, maybe a bit less.

Which you get a car that weighs less than a civic, has the power of a F-body, you can run low 12 second passes easy, and still get like 20mpg.

Plus you can say you built it yourself

:silly2: First of all, Im canadian, not american.
Besides u dont even own a car, and even if you did it would cost you a fortune because japenese cars are always in the shop and the parts cost a hell of alot. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

It is very easy to do the Z conversion terminal. many manuals have been written you can already buy some Z with the conversion already. It combines the best of both worlds light weight and lager displacement power. Electrical is a no brainer on those cars and um miniaml wirign harness on the carb cars which is what i plan thus making it easier. The Z's with these conversions almost always run very quick in the quarter and the lower you want to go the harder with the larger american cars. It would also be different so im still stickin with it unless i find something better.

Oh and the driveshafts can just be cut and welded. Its a simple procedure getting the yokes right is a bit of a challnege but it can be done with the right tools easily and expierence, and since i would say i know a bit about welding it shouldnt be too hard. You should consider a Z conversion yourself. goes down on your insurance as a older 6 cylinder car and they are way cheap to buy. Rear ends arent hard to come by at all in fact many rear ends out of TT 300 Z's and 240 SX's bolt right in there is a datsun club that meets at bobs every now and then and ive talked to them numerous times. As for the tranny JTR as well as many others who have listed what they have had to do with these trans mounts is simple, I have many links from many people saved on my comptuer going step by step how you can even use the stock shifter (if an auto) and use it to link up to a th350 and so on. Oh and with the motor weighing only 140 more pounds as even redneck brought out how did you come up with the 65/35 weight ratio? Just wondering maybe if you had some information i didnt on these cars. If so please send. BTW the mounts are not custom you use ones out of an american car so they will bolt up and you will just weld them in place. As for the tranny and engine being much bigger... well the v8 is shorter than the 6 by 2 full cylidners, and JTR even said (makign many v8 covnersions for odd cars with manuals) said that the datsun design almost looked like it was being made to have a v8 put in it. You should consider getting one, in essence it is easier to make these go fast than a full size muscle car simply due to weight, and with many Z and other datsun performance sites already making performance parts for high high power and performance applications in these cars. Sorry i didnt post this in my last reply I needed a nap.

.....sr20det's are DEFINATELY capable of reaching 400 hp. come on now, you should know that JDM nissan motors are built with performance in mind so the internals are built up stronger than they need be....build up the internals just a little bit and you can boost the hell out of that little 2.0.
thats great that you can get 400hp but what about torque? you can pull SOOOO much more torque out of a 5.7 liter v8 because its physically bigger......seems like everyone forgets torque and always is HP happy, and please can someone teach that one poster on here some english, i got confused reading his/her slang, it hurt my eyes
