Saw an interesting article today(iMag,nov)...apparently,a Dr Marc Feldman, who specialises in 'imagined' disorders, such as Munchausen's Syndrome is advancing the theory of Munchausen by Internet Syndrome...according to his research, there is a trend emerging whereby people of a particular nature are logging into forums and chat rooms seeking sympathy for fictitious tragedies, maladies, misfortunes etc,etc...

interesting, so they write a post in a chat about some sort of misfortune that never happend to them, in hopes of someone comforting them or sympathizing with them, on a topic which they never experienced? why? thats really interesting though its going to make me hesitant to respond to another sympathy thread, do you have the article?

Fascinating...the quest for constant pity-parties definitely fits - but how does the Boxter come into all of it? This particular individual seems to desire pity and jealousy (and come to think of it, lust) simultaneously.

low self - esteem. Common in certain mental conditions, the individual attatches no worth to their opinions and believes that people will only notice her/him if she owns something of value.

you can't beat the masked marvel spidey was a good one, as for the 'million P-man march'. I condemplated changing my avatar and sig. Then due to my fright of what P-man might do to a newbie mocking him, I didint march. but here's the pic I planned on using lol.

hey...us old men take exception to negative stereotyping!

It's an interesting call though....must sit down and compare his/her style of writing with, say,Tangie's or Boingo's.When you read closely, and pay attention to sentence structure, you get an idea of the thought processes......

But on a side issue, what are the ethics issues of dissecting a member like this in such a public fashion?I doubt if I would care to have it done to me[but then I have always been completely honest about my shortcomings].

I see your point T-man, ethically I feel it to be wrong, I kind of feel like part of a witch hunt, ostracizing that one person from the rest of AF, who knows if she's telling the truth or not. I too am forthcoming and truthful in my posts. But it is easy for other's to deceive. when they cannot see facial expressions or even faces for the matter at hand. So I guess all we can do is wonder?

I do. In "her" profile, the birthday is 2/14/1982. I have THE EXACT SAME BIRTHDAY. However, I am 20 years old, whereas this person has claimed in 3 different places to be 19 years old. Even someone who sucks at math still knows their own age.

Profile
1st claim to be 19
2nd claim
3rd claim

Of course this is in addition to all the car shenanigans - in one post she claims to be poor and struggling, yet previously claimed to own a "Porshe Boxter", later claiming it was T-boned. The only thread previously with any mention of an accident said she got rear-ended ..
Now she claims to have a Chevelle. And if you look back to this individual's first 2 posts, she was trying to purchase a 1965 Aston Martin or a 1966 Shelby Cobra - neither of which are cheap.

good point boingo82, it is a bit unbelieveable. I was only trying to enter my own ethics into it as t-man suggested.

I didn't mean to attack. It's just that in this particular case, things don't just 'seem off'. There is irrefutable evidence that no matter who or what SeXy_AnGeL is, it is a liar, and a bad one at that.

Its ok, and I see your point. I was just trying to be openminded about the whole situation. But your right the facts don't lie.
