Re: WIP: 70.5 Camaro Pro Mod Drag Car

Thank you guys! I appreciate it......

I was asking around about the best way to do my headers, and a guy at work here came up with a great idea. Aluminum welding rod. So after talking to my buddy Dave Sherman about it, he hooked up me up with not only the rod, but made me a cool little jig to drill the ends out. It worked great! So thanks again Shermanator.

I cut 8 pieces of the rod and drilled the ends, as well as 8 pieces of K&S tubing to slide over them. Now I just need to bend the rod for the upturn, and get them sized and assembled.

I've just about got my wheelie bars done as well. I decided to add a net back there. I used medical tape cut into thin strips and then painted flat black. I made the entire net and then glued it to the wheelie bars. The wheels themselves were machined from some red resin blanks given to me by Dave Morton. The resin worked great. Thanks Dave!

I also did some more work to the slicks. I printed the Hoosier's on the Alps and dull coated them along with a quick rub from the Tamiya weathering kit. The side stripe was just white lacquer brushed on.

And once again, a weekend is coming up. Hopefully I can get the body cleared, slicks installed, and headers finished. Getting down to crunch time!

Re: WIP: 70.5 Camaro Pro Mod Drag Car

I know, I know......once a slacker, always a slacker.

OK, decals are on, and it's even cleared. But I need to polish it out a bit. I can n ever seem to escape getting a few bits in here and there. It should polish out pretty easily.

I've been working back up by the engine. Once it was permanently installed, I machined a new fuel/oil tank for up front. I also machined the two lids. In front of that I made a breather tan from some square styrene stock sanded to shape and painted flat black. Once those were installed, I hooked up the oil lines and added the breather lines to the valve covers. Still need to add the rest of my fuel lines yet. I also made two small CF panels and got those mounted. Once will have some MSD pieces, not sure on the other one yet.

And here's how the body is sitting at the moment. I grabbed a bunch of images from the net and made a design up in Photoshop. As you can tell my my avatar, I dig pirates. Once it's polished I still need to so the windows, as well as paint the bumpers and add all the Camaro markings in various places.

That's it. I'm going back to work!!

Clay

Clay,.........nup, sorry.......I'm speechless.
I can't find the words which would justly critique your fabulous work.......Best craftsmanship ever is not enough, but I hope it will do.

Wow amazing work!! Did you print the decals on a clear decal sheet? How did you do the white? or are they seperate pieces?

Re: WIP: 70.5 Camaro Pro Mod Drag Car

Are you tired of looking at this thing yet??? I know I about am.

But I'm still pushing along.

I got all the body panels polished out. It looked pretty good before, but getting everything leveled out and slicked up really brought it to life.

Once that was done, I masked off and sprayed the bumperettes and rear bumper HoK silver.

I've also been tying up a bunch of loose ends in the interior.

The fire bottle handles and lines are installed, steering wheel and cords installed, and I also finished scratch building the shifter tree and got it mounted and all the lines hooked up. I also made and installed a few CF panels in the rear. Batteries are installed and detailed......about all that is left inside are the air bottles, fire bottles, and electronics.

The engine area is about a night away from being done as well. With the exception of those damn headers.

I hooked up the rest of the fuel lines, fuel shut off lever and got all the small decals added that I was missing.

Almost time to go for a ride!!!

Thanks for looking!

Clay

Re: WIP: 70.5 Camaro Pro Mod Drag Car

Not a big update, but it was a huge step for me. THE HEADERS ARE DONE! They have been one of the hardest parts of this car so far. I have started and stopped at least five times. But last night I was victorious!

I ended up putting the body and doors on the car, and taping the front end in place, so all of the body was on and solid. Then I flipped it over and tube by tube started adding them and gluing them in place. Once I had four done on the left side I repeated the same process for the right side. I drilled all eight for the sensor lines that will be added later.

Once everything was in place and solid, I took the body off and went out and shot all the Alclad heat staining with hot metal sepia, clear yellow, and hot metal violet. On the car! LOL But it all worked out, and I crossed a biggie of my to-do list.

Re: WIP: 70.5 Camaro Pro Mod Drag Car

I worked on the windows last night. I found some .007 clear sheet at Hobby Lobby and used that for all of them. Front and rear windows were made bordered with a Sharpie and then glued in. I used Pro Tech's smallest PE nuts all around held on with Future. I still need to add the inner bracing to the side windows, and some to the front windows. And I'm really not sure about my new driver, but he's pretty fired up about the chance to drive it.

Next up will be finishing the windows and inner doors, and electronics.
