First Drag Car/Pro Street

Hello everyone first off im new to this website. Im looking into building a early 90's hatchback mustang. My goals are to be in 9's. For starters i want to know what size motor everyone is running in there cars to get into the 9's. Like i said this will be my first drag type car. Im just wondering what kind of money im gonna be investing. Im trying to figure out what motor, tranny, rear end, NOS and so on. So if someone could help a newby out i would appreciate it. Thanks for the help. Glad to be apart of the forumn.

Re: First Drag Car/Pro Street

sorry forgot to mention i was thinking of running just straight racing fuel for the fuel. I just need some help as far as what will give me the best power and what will get me into the 9's without a lot of NOS i know if i have a motor that will get me in the 9's that it will have internal work and such to handle a good shot of NOS but just want to see what i can do. Thanks

What are you 12 or something?

Anyways.....If you are going with the fox body you are going to want a 302 (5.0L).

Here is what I would get on a under 25k budget.

Ford Racing Z Head 302-347ci
+450hp
$7000 - $8300
Vortech V-2 with Co2/Water Aftercooler
+265hp
$8000 - $8700
T-56 Transmission
$2000

Then you are going to need a proper fuel system, roll cage, supsension and cooling so that will be about another $8,000 or so.

All that will probaby get you into the 9s. If you are serious about this I could do a detailed list but if you are a some kid don't waste time. I can't see very well and searching through cataloges and running simulations doesn't make me feel very good.

Re: First Drag Car/Pro Street

the actual SIZE of the motor doesnt matter as much as how you chose your parts and do tuning.

remember Esslinger got a ZX2 (2.0 zetec i4) to run 11.03 N/A, no spray NOTHING, and said they could have pulled better numbers if Ford hadn't pulled funding to push the 2.3 in the new Focus.
