Just a couple pieces of advice. Dont attempt a complete scratchbuild unless you know you're capable, not just think you're capable. I had put about 400-500+ hours into the planning, scaling, measuring, engineering, and design before building.

As far as aluminum goes, why are you so bent on aluminum? Its more expensive, and harder to work with. The only benefit is that its a little lighter. Do you have an english wheel either? English wheels run about $699.99USD. English wheels take a lot of time to master, they look a lot easier then they really are.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not trying to scare you away. I have been working with metal for years and I know how hard it can be to work with and get to look right.

BTW I will have pics of that grill in just a few minutes.

UPDATES:

Heres a sketch of the grill. It was the biggest pain in the ass to draw, well trying to draw the back of the grill while looking proportionally correct was the pain. Anyway heres the sketch of the grill with some close ups:

Below: Back of the grill. With a close up of how the grill pieces will be attached to grill frame/housing. NOTE: The grill bar will not be spaced out that much, I just left them that way so it would be easier to understand.

Below: Orthographic sketch of the grill.

Ta-da!

The grille looks really sharp! Very agressive looking. Keep up the good work Mike!

I will also build a couple choppers as well, with a steel frame and all. Except they may be 1:4 scale.

Glad you like it, because all you will be seeing is sketches for awhile. The project is at a stand still. The owner of the welder is tired of me bothering him, my uncle is tired of me bothering him to go to the welders, my parents dont want me to get a new welder in the new house because there is no cement walled shop. I get my next pay check this Friday, so I will try to grab a new MIG welder that weekend. Only problem is that weekend I am supposed to pack up the rest of the shop and basement to move.

Frankly, I dont give a shit about the move. I want a new welder, I will get a new welder, and Im going to use it. This is BS. I'm not going to stop this project now.

Fwew I am pissed...

Re: ULTIMATE SCRATCHBUILD: 1/6 Hot Rod (Progress)

I dont mean to whore my own thread, but I need to relieve some stress without leaving you in the dark. This will be the censored version, as I will use lots of swearing in the thread in stress release.

Well I was just over at the new flat looking to where I would build my shop. I had my dad come down and take a look at my ideas. The minute I said the word "welder" he said "No, uh-uh, absolutely not". I asked why and he follows up with the "Youre irresponsible, you can burn the house down, you dont know what you are doing". I have been welding for years, and he goes to say I dont know what I'm doing. Thats BS. He doesnt know jack shit about it, to him its like "it creates sparks, it will burn the house down".

Theres the short version, needless to say I am about ready to go on a rampage.
