Re: The new Impala SS

The SSR is out, and has a a 5.7, there is no longer any speculation. It is not called the Impala SSR, just SSR. The SSR has no backseat, and no true trunk, just a pickup bed with a hard tonneau. The middle aged 40 yr old male will buy the SS to satisfy his wifes wants of a midsize, children hauler, and to satisfy his quest for speed. Tell me, where would 2 children go in the SSR? I guess a few bungees would hold the youngins down. I don't mean anything by this, but you just got

Thanx for the info. But I fail to see how I am owned. Anyways...where's your information comming from? From what your describing it sounds like something Chevy was gonna call the Bel Aire afew years back.

Seems kinda funny....I've not heard that about the SSR....and everything I've heard about anything close to relating to it came from my father-in-law. It's hard to argue with 27 years with GM.

I said you were owned because you were incredibly wrong, and I really wanted to say that! lol. The Bel-air is scrapped, and the SSR is on the website.

Actually....I went to chevy's site right after I posted my last message. From the pictures I saw in some internal GM booklets, they look very very similar to the "new" SSR.

But you failed to answer my questions....where did you get your information?

According to the chebby site. The SSR is a 2 seater pickup type thing with a retro front end.

A 6 cylinder SS?? What will they think of next, a daisy magnum BB gun or a pit-chihuahua?
You know there was an S-10 SS which was a 4.3l V6. That thing only had 10 hp more then the regular 4.3.

The new Impala SS should have its respectable 280 lb*ft. of torque available early. I bet if GM gave the new SS a decent 5 speed auto or manual transmission to go with the engine and the same +20 horsepower the Bonneville receives, it would be quicker than similarly equipped Altima 3.5, Camry Solara V6, Passat V6 or Accord V6.
As it is? It will probably be faster than the 300M and the Crown Vic or even Mercury Marauder, but still slower than a lot of the similarly priced FWD foreign competition.

On the other hand, I read an article called "GM's Advanced Engines" at edmunds.com which said that GM is going to product a new 3.9 liter V6 which gets 240 horsepower and torque naturally aspirated. If GM goes RWD with the Impala, an Impala with the 5.7 liter LS1 is probably out of my price range. But an Impala with a supercharged 3.9 liter V6 making 300 horsepower might be right up my alley.

Re: The new Impala SS

i have a 95 caprice with an LT1, and i got a 2000 impala police car with the 3.8, and there not that far apart as far as speed go's, but my caprice needs a tune-up, but so does the impala. i don't know anybody that i trust enough to let drive the other one, so i haven't raced them side by side yet. i'd ask my wife, but she would try to kill me just for racing. she doesn't like "speeding". i do

Re: The new Impala SS

i know my caprice would win, but i'm just sayin the impala's not slow ether. i don't know if it's a different engine couse it was a police car, but it's fast anyway.
