What's Wrong With the New Impala?

The new Impala seems to get dissed a lot for being front-wheel drive. For what most people drive Impalas for, I don't see what difference it makes. I think the C-pillar looks as stylish as the RWD version that came before it, and it's put together better.

what most ppl don't like about the impala is that it's a family sedan, fwd. it's nothing like the muscle car it used to be, and that's y many ppl, including myself, have disagreements about it. i mean, i like the car, looks good, nice engine, and especailly the new impala ss supercharged engine. but even in its greatness, it doesn't deserve the title impala b/c of what it is today. that's my .

Exactly. I got a 95 caprice for that reason. Honestly the whimpala doesn't deserve to be called an impala. It's fwd, small and slow. And here's what I think about it...

I would take ANY whimpala with my caprice. There is nothing that can replace a V8 RWD vehicle, not even the supercharged 3.8, fwd.

The car is ugly. The taillights are horrible. It is fwd which puts shame on the impala name and it is a 6-cyl. The impala has always been a big american sedan - rwd with v8 power. If the wanted to build a fwd sedan they should have used a different name.

I know this post is old but i still want to say that I disagree with some points. I agree the new Impala is a nice car but isn't like the old ones but wasn't there slow impalas before the 2000-2004 models. As for being small is my biggest disagreement its 12 inches less in length but thats basically all hood the inside is only like 1% smaller(not sure on exact percent) the trunk is only 4% smaller. As for speed its a bit slow compared to the 94-96 models i admit, but a few bucks will speed it up(rev is limited a lot it seems to me by computer). Also the 04 Impala SS will have at least 200hp at the wheels only 10 less then a 94-96model and it has a sporty trans and set up and weighs 600lbs pounds less (that gives it a better power to weight ratio) so i would say it would be a close race and I would not be surprised if the 04 won a drag race.

i had a 94 caprice police package with the LT1. and i just sold my 95 caprice. now i have a 2000 impala with police package. yes the caprice's were stronger and faster, but they were also heavy as shit, and guzzled gas. my impala has a 3.8 lt. engine with 200 hp., but the caprice was only rated at 260 hp., and thats with alot bigger 5.7 lt. engine. yeah i liked being able to smoke the tires in my caprice's, but my new impala is not slow. i agree that the rear looks ugly with those tail lights, but the rest of the car looks good. i live in philadelphia, it snows alot and it was a bitch tryin not to spin the tires in the snow with the capice's, even with new tires or snow tires. there's just to much power to the rear wheels to drive in the snow. front wheel drive is better in the snow to me. i like both cars, but the new impala is fine to me.
