Although she didn't fail, that same thing happened to my sister who goes to college in Florida. She spelled certain words in proper English form (we use it in Canada), such as honour, favour, colour, etc. The teacher marked each instance of it wrong. She's a freakin "international" student, she should be allowed to spell the way that she was tought growing up, and since she'll probly live in Canada after school, the way that's correct in her country....

She just let it go, but I would have appealed the mark. Americans can feel free to spell the way they want, but infringing on a non-American's right to spell the way she was taught is just wrong.

English

I write in both English and American English depending on the audience. If I am writing anything to the folk I work with or anyone else in NZ and it's a direct addressee (eg email, mail or memo) then I use English (NZ). This is a little different from English (UK) but largely the same.

If I am writing to a wider audience esp an international audience then I look at the forum and the participants. You will find that I use both within AF but predominantly choose a style that doesn't require the distinction between English (NZ) and English (US).

When I write some technical stuff relating to another hobby of mine on a US based site I use English (US), it's polite because I am posting as a guest of the US site and I elect to use the English (US) style of grammar, sentence construction, spelling and idiom

I'm a fanatical nationalist I'm also a fanatical socialist... I guess that makes me a fanatical nazi! :hehehe:

I spell it COLOUR, FAVOUR, and I can pronounce the word ROOF! It's a double O sound, like, WHO... not pronounced ROUGH! RANT RANT RANT!

Oh, for the record Kicker, it's impossible to have a complex personality without some, or most people thinking you are crazy... Wait a minute, I might be thinking of a personality complex...

It's not a crew... It's just a little tag that shows you're Canadian

I got tired of being mistaken for an American quite a while ago
