Re: In Progress Tamiya 1/12th Porsche 935 Turbo

Nice, attention to detail is outstanding and the texture of the parts is also spot on!!

Really lovely work - looks so great.
How do you get the different types of textures on the parts??

lazbun, Welcome to Automotive Forums......
so far it's all plastic out of the box except the fiberglass texture on the top engine cover.

campenr.1, most of the texture came from the base color which was sprayed on. I used Plasti-Kote automotive brand paint called Cast Grey which is a dark grey metallic color. I sprayed this as the base color and since it dries fast, when sprayed from a distance of about 1 foot it texturizes. Then I just dry brushed tamiya acrylic aluminum, metallic grey, etc... over the Cast Grey color high-lighting the details until I got the result I was looking for.

Thanks David, unfortunately this one won't be at the NNL this year. I have two other Porsches that I'm working on specifically for the Nov NNL's. Since one of the themes this year is Road & Track I'm building two of Fujimi's Porsche 356 Enthusiasts kits, one street and one race, and have only just started cleaning the parts of one of them. Anybody that's built the enthusiast kits knows I have my work cut out to build and detail two of them by November.

I just love stress and emotional torture.....

A few more updates:

Here's the engine completed to the level of the kit instructions plus the added BMF straps on the intake tubes and the fittings on the injection pump.

Now, I will be adding some other wiring and plumbing to make the engine more complete and hopefully more realistic. Allthough, I don't intend to go overboard on the details because in my opinion too much detail in scale become less realistic to a degree, it just becomes cluttered. Or maybe I'm just too lazy....

That really is beautiful. Right texture, wires all hang right and all the small details add up to one stunning engine. Beautiful..

Holy cow, Batman!

I think the only thing you could do to make this engine more realistic is to pour 15cc of engine oil in and start her up!

Very impressive
