the action of drifting (oversteer) is possible in all types of enginelocation/drivetrain combinations.

drift is attained by the shifting of weight from the tyres of drive on the car to invoke a state of tractionless movement, the car is carried along by forced of inertia and by a sense of partial-grip of the spinning tyres

now in a front wheel drive car this is all reversed because you steer with the wheels that power your vehicle hence when you lose traction your steering cannot put you in the desired direction because...NO GRIP!

SO to achieve a drift in a fwd based car, an advanced technique involving leftfoot braking whilst accelerating is used to shift the weight of the understeering car through the corner and often initiating an all wheel drift in the process.

the reason why most of you here dont believe it can be done, is because it is a VERY difficult technique to use and eventually master.

power-over or as the american's say "powersliding" isnt the ONLY way to drift as some of you have said. there are many more techniques apart from using more power than the wheels lateral grip can withstand to incite a situation of traction loss..such as...Feint Drift, E-brake drift(often called side-turn), Inertia Drift, Power-over and the ardest, the Yaw Drift.

If you want to learn more about the ENTIRE world of drifting, not just the powersliding part, come over to club4ag and read the refernce section, most of you will become a little less narrow minded i hope

I'll admit it's alot of fun but the S-Chassis series and the FC's and FD's and the MR2's do pretty well too in drift competitions so dont count them out...

It's bad to be close minded

in a front wheel drive car you cant really control it around the corner very well. with a rear wheel drive car you can apply more or less gas to adjust the angle you slide at. fwd you are just pulling the ebrake and sliding around a corner
It can be done with any kind of car. No offense or anything, but if you call this "drifting" then I guess you don't know what drifting really is. This looks like "skidding/sliding" to me.

I'd hate to say this, but Riot1 is either just gay or watches Initial D too much.

I don't know where i downloaded it from, but i have this video of a skyline and an s15 drifting, and it's awesome, not perfect but great nontheless. If you know what i'm talkin about you'll know that a FWD car can never do that no matter how you try to describe the word "DRIFT" or how you try to explain physics. There's tons of movies out there proving RWD cars drifting,i've never seen a FWD car do it.So unless i see it it's a fairy tale.

you probably did. might be a good idea to take that comment down.

anyways, the whole Jewish Drift Thing is an inside joke that me and Derek (Dorikin) have from another board, so don't flame him for it. he's jewish and proud of it, so why is he not allowed to bring his religion onto AF? it's not like he's preaching to you or anything. so settle down.

Derek - on the topic, your comments were a bit harsh too. FF drifting may very well be gay...ah whatever, your comments were spot on. i just think you might take some flack for the Initial D remark, as alot of people on here are fans. didn't you use to like it...?

Sorry guys, I should have never brought this Jewish drift thing up. But still I think we should leave religion alone. If you are proud of your religion good for you. But know that the religion is the #1 reason for war. So be careful when you mention it where you mention it. Because just mentioning it might offend someone.
NO RELIGION FOR ME and proud of it

*sigh*

i didnt think any of you would understand

it may not look like a RWD drift, but it is "drift" all the same

i drive an '86, so im quite aware of the fun and power involved in RWD drifting, but most of you are mis-conceived

not all of initial D is fake, i mean majority of the story is writers license and all, but some theories explained in ID ain't that far from the truth and some are some spot on

but in all it IS possible for FWD cars to drift. it may not look as "showy" or as fun as the RWD cars but it IS possible

and for the person who said "its not true until i see it".... start hanging with a more talented bunch of drivers and pull your head out of your arse you might find the world is a little different than you perceive.

No I didn’t say Judaism is the #1 cause. I said religion is and I don’t have any problem with it, I said some other might. I just find religion being mentioned odd at an automotive forum.
Sorry if I upset you Guy, I can take it off if you like.
