Thanks guys.
Mike, yes, the wheels are quite nice in the kit, and looks correct.
Steven, yes, I'll plan on making fuel cap working.

great work on the doors and trunk.

Quick question Alex. What gauge/thickness of brass are you using?

Thanks.

Mike.

Re: Making of Le Mans Thoroughbred - '64 Ferrari 250 GTO

Small update - working on the engine:
cylinder head, sump, oil pan, front cover, and clutch bucket were assembled together. Then I assembled bell housing, gearbox, and shifter box. Note that gear box has removable cover!

These kits are very nicely detailed, and this one provides a clutch plate/main gear, even though it won't be visible when assembled. Nice touch!

Another view of the assembly. Finally, I put the two together - that is some LONG block for ya! Almost 2 inches.

Polished the engine, and attached cams and a rack of 6 Webers.

Till next time!

Wow Alex. From a mechanics stand point, that is pretty accurate. All the coolant passages in the block and the flywheel. What di you use to polish up the white metal? Do you find there are many seams to deal with on the white metal? Thanks for sharing.

Mike.

Mike.
I polish it with a dremel - wire brush at first, then felt wheel with metal polish. There are a bunch of seams on white metal parts, it actually took me about 4 hours to clean up all the parts you see on these pictures, and they are still not perfect. Lots of work, but after some wash and weathering, it should look very nice.

And yes, the pistons are set at a different level!

Well, honestly, I wasn't aware really about your scratchbuilding skills... I only saw your models on the finished pages, but now I discovered this, and must say... wow This is really a superb accomplishment already

It's quite inspiring and learnful (dunno if that words exists, but it says it all)

Keep up the super job! And that putty you're using, is that the simple tamiya basic? because it looks a bit like it? Just curious!
