yeah i would suggest to replace the switch since the signals and everything works. I hav talked to a technicial and he suggested for me to change my switch which is a long piece of plastic behind the hazard light button above the stereo.

I have the same problem with random clicking and but turning signals work and when random clicking accurs the signals dont act with it. thanks god! haha

well the switch is coming from Ebay soon so I will have my car hopefully fixed

Re: clicking noises

mine was from Ebay and but it didnt fix the problem 100% as i am experiencing some ticking noise but rarely!

I dont know what else to do by open the damn switch and try to clean it out! I am sorry but I am really just going to let professionals handle this for 100$ because I am sick of it and it drives me crazy!

try cleaning or i guess replacing it but i couldnt promise u anything
Good Luck!

multifunction switch recall

I had the switch replaced April 04 under recall and now I have the same problem again. I will return it to the dealer next week and let you know the result.

Re: clicking noises

welcome to the forum mrlsle. Next time, please make a new thread instead of resserecting one that is over a month old / especially one that's this big. It helps keep the forum less cluttered.

Re: clicking noises

I just cleaned the contacts and the cable harnessand the mechanism on the multifunction switch and that solve the clicking problem.Just remove the three screwsin the botton of the steering wheel, loose the plastic cover, then remove the screw on the top and disconect the three conectors. Try to clean it with an electrical cleaner(can of spray if you can get one, it's not expensive.like 6 dlls at home depot). wait until it's dry and reinstall everything. It works. Don't forget to disconect the negative terminal of the battery, just in case of the deployment of the airbag and/or a short-circuit.

I had the same clicking problem as all of you.
I also fixed it by opening the turn signal switch and removing the grease between contacts.

I had the recall done for the hazards. It didnt fix the damn clicking. For now, I wedge a penny in between the flasher button and the frame around it. You won't be able to use you signals, so be careful.

Simply detatch it, you need to get the *special* star screwdriver (or an allen key might work) to open it up, but GM uses some crappy grease in there which I think eroded the contacts somehow, and mixed in with the grease making a faulty contact. I didn't believe it either, until i wiped up the grease, cleaned it with rubbing alchohol, and reinstalled it. Worked like a charm for an easy 20 minutes work. Sure beats the $150+ GM will charge you for a new unit. Also, the noise is coming from the hazard light switch (thats where the relay is), and would lead you to belive that is where the problem is (I tried to replace that unit to no avail), but the problem is actually around the steering wheel. BTW, I have a 2000 GrandAM SE.

Good luck!

Marc
This is exactly how I fixed the problem on my GA as well. I did it 2 years ago and no problems since.
