an old plastic cup, turned upside down..... kinda wedge the cup between the two 'doors' of the body.
Works like a charm. Or... and old Spray Can. (After My cup was layered with Paint )

But how do you guys secure the chassis? I'm building Kure Nismo GT-R, but I've just cut the chassis from the sprue tree and now I don't know to secure it!!

I use a old rattle can as well and bluetac the cars roof to the top.
The chassis I superglue (CA) a small plastic tube to a bit which will never show when finished on the inside and hold with a crocodile clip mount. I'll edit this post if I find a photo. ![]()

This tip is like the paint can and a wad of tape trick.
I like to use a plastic 2-litre pop bottle with tape on it. Make sure you keep the cap and put it back on the bottle. Why you may ask? First, the bottle is tall, makes it easy to paint from almost any angle. Second, It is easy to handle. Third, I can add water in the bottle to weigh it down, and make a sturdy wobble free stand when painting. Fourth, everybody has these lying around and they don’t need to be formed or bent to use. If you can find and use bottles that are just as tall and have bigger caps on them, even better. |

my jig
i used some 5mm brass wire and drilled 2 holes into a 2x4 about 4 inches long and put the wire in it, bent it to the right shape, and voila!!

It's the tall spray can for me too, only I use a full one as it's heavier. I like it because it's so easy to rotate it with one hand. A lot of bodies are narrow enough to just grip the sides of the can, iff not then some wadded gaffer tape or auto badge tape doest the trick. I find the Halfords cans are nice and tall and do the job nicely.
For chassis I do the same thing but just stick the chassis upside down on top of the can. Works for me

I use old coke bottles too, but I use the 20oz bottles, and turn them upside down. They are just a little wider than most models so there is a light pressure against the insides of the body and it holds tightly. I still double some tape to be sure it doesn't fall off. To keep it from falling over later, I'll stick in in a full toilet paper roll. I've been tossing around the idea of running a bolt up through my desk, and sliding a capless bottle over the bolt to hold it, I'm tired of my roommates complaining there's no TP. However, I'm sure they're tired of there being none........

Just as FYI, Tamiya is releasing a spray work paint stand very soon. Personally, I use Tamiya tall primer spray cans with tape on it cap for bodies & chassis
