The 2.2L unit is a overhead-valve (OHV) pushrod engine. The horsepower ratings changed over the years as they changed the tuning - notice as the horsepower drops, the torque rises.

The 2.4L engine is a twin-cam (DOHC). Much better design and power. OHV engines, especially 4 cylinder ones, generally aren't very good. The only exception to this seems to be GM's 5.7L OHV which is an extremely good engine.

toyota cavalier..

exactly the same as chevy cavalier except

that well right hand drive
leather steering wheel
power side mirrors
folding mirrors
trunk liner
side markers and fenders are different
cornering light that sticks out of the bumper
taillights are different (you can make a killing w/ those taillights on ebay)
all came w/ a 2.4L engine in automatic I heard as well, never seen a 5spd to prove this wrong..

but yeh same engine, just things different for the Japanese market
like throttle linkage length, all warning marks etc... power steering cap is different, and some other things.

ok i used to have a quad4 motor not quite a 2.4 but basically the same especially to a 96 motor.
anyways that thing was snappy as hell and would run against some 305 camaro's (carbed)

a little sluggy off the line but past 3000rpm there was very little that could pull away from me maybe it was just a freaky good motor compared to the norm but no turbo 2.2 woulda past me!! i had raced an older sunbird with a 2.0 turbo and blew it away even tho its rated at 160hp
so thats where i stand!

and by the way that 92000mile 2.4 probably not a good idea those things break!!!
HAHAHA mine went after 116000KM!!! KM!!! 60000MILES so watch out!

thats probably just some cavalier owners trying to make their cars ricey by putting toyota stickers on their cars..........which is completely stupid..... they actually think toyota is better than chevy? yeah right

actually all the parts are interchangeable.... it was built in the same plant the chevy version was built in. The only differences I pretty much summed it up in my above post.

Toyota did indeed market the Cavalier for GM in Japan.... it's the same car inside and out.. just hte main obvious differences is the right hand drive, japanese warning labels, and lighting differences so it can comply with japanese standards..

GM Performance has a supercharger available for 99+ Chevy Cavaliers equipped w/ the 2.4L and 5spd option.

RSMRacing has a supercharger available for all models of cavalier from 95+

for prices you can go search for their websites which I have listed a few times on these boards.

depends on how much boost u give it...i know the 2.2 cant handle too much unless u rebuild it..unlike the ecotec

it all depends but the z24 isnt all that fast compared to a 2.2 turbo in the end (if not close)

u also gotta remember the turbo lag

purchasing turbo for 2.2l

if you are serious about putting a turbo on your car and saving some money in the process then you might seriously consider building it yourself. You can buy a new T3/T4 Hybrid (Turbo) for $750.00. Buy some pipes and and a header and take them to any exhaust shop and they bend them to fit your car specifically. The headers will need a new flange put on to fit the turbo as well. You also have to consider to you want an intercooler or do you just want to use an intake. Best gaines come from the intercooler. You can probably pick one up for about $300.00 There a few other thing you will need.

-wastegate
-fuel pressure regulator
-fuel flow rail

All in all you will save a couple of hundred dollars. The kits new cost around $1900.00 and I have even seen them for $2500.00. Again this all depends on the turba that you want on your car.

If anyone sees that I am misswing anything please add to the list to help this young man out.

man, what r u talking about? ok, lets see here-the 2.2 ecotec is made out of aluminum, lighter but weaker than iron blocks like the 2.4 and 2.2 2200 engines found in 2nd gen cavaliers. and everyone knows that iron can take a whole lot more power than aluminum. so it wouldn't be the 2.2 and 2.4 that would need rebuilds, it would be the ecotec. but the problem is putting enough of a boost on that engine for it to be rebuilt...
