i think it's MEVI. for variable intake. and the y pipe's in the mail as we speak.

i could get that stuff done. but doing it would get me at around 285-300 hp depending on if i went forced induction and how much boost witha lot of boost i could get around 400 probably but then i'd have to do serious engine work. my engine has 160,000miles on it. it runs fine but the money for a new egine, all that stuff, plus whatever i could get for my car would be a nice down payment for a new car. i love my car but the fastest max in the U.S is running just under 12 seconds. that's impressive but the evo, sti,srt-4 they'll all be running low 11's and i don't think many of the new nissans will except maybe the 350z with a lot of $$$ in it.

Definitely with Mike on this one, but the question is why haven't they already done this?

Their sales are still high, they are not worried about it most likely

2)if so when? and what cars are they planning on putting out stuff for. will they be marketing products for the nissan cars that are already out.(like a 4th gen max)
i've heard a lot of when's and if's but nothing concrete.
The last I heard... Nismo was going to be stateside by late 2002...unfortunately, that doesnt seem to have happened.

As for a turbo in my G...yeah, that'd be fun, but right now I'm trying to pay for the darned thing. However, if I had to replace the engine anyway, why not throw in a turbo? My only concern with buying a used, turboed engine is reliability...as you know, if those things aren't cooled down properly there can be problems.
However, the G has adequate power for me now. It gets an avg. of about 27mpg while maintaining enough power not to be an embarassment. I don't race, ever, but if I did you can bet I'd want a lot more guts, though.

As a side note, I kind of LIKE the fact that there isn't a ton of aftermarket stuff available for Nissans. It seems that you only really see modded Nissans that are owned by enthusiasts, and they're pretty rare, unlike Hondas which are modded by EVERYBODY.

That ease of obtaining parts also contributes to the Civic and Accord being two of the 10 most-stolen cars...think about it this way: A thief can steal a Civic, spend $1500 on parts and paint, and have a totally unrecognizable car in a few hours.

on another note. Nissan should NOT build a 2 door Altima with a FWD V6 to compete against the 2 door Accord and Toyota Solara. Now it *could* be cool if Nissan makes something similar and smaller "pocket rocket" with a turbo I4 or smaller V6 (<3.5L) RWD wighing less than 2800 pounds.....

if a new nissan car isn't the answer, than a much bigger, more easily accessible aftermarket market is needed

Well I make a pulley for the Maxima and Altima I am trying my best, but the guys doing my work lag. So I dont always have stuff comming out in a timely matter. I know guys want things like cams, larger manifolds, cam gears, lighter rods, bigger pistons and all that stuff but its hard getting access to drawings/sizes and dimensions when the motors of these cars are not available to me.

Give it time, there will eventually be a large aftermarket available for these cars.

You honestly cant, 4th gen Maxima is one of the best buys for the bang(used), although I think the 3rd gen V6 Altima(new) is filling that void that the more costly 5th Gen Max cant and Nissan is staying at the top of their game.

yeah but at the same time the new altima's don't give a used buyer the sense of security of the quality of the car as the maxima does. even a 4th gen max seems better built and more reliable to me...the 5th gen will be the same way in 5 years, cause of the luxury, looks, performance, and fit and finish. it's a killer combo, and that's what makes it a MAXima

'Tis funny, because the 2002+ Altimas crash the best of any Nissan so far.

It is true that Nissan's reliability has declined slightly, according to the reports I've seen. I don't know whether it's because of cost-cutting, or because they're manufacturing more cars in the US now.

Well what I have noticed was my GLE looked nice inside, but my Altima looks like a Lexus inside, doesnt have the same fit and finish, dont get me wrong I love lexus interior way more, but my car has a much nicer look then my GLE did.

On the GXE models I noticed it was always cheapy looking interior much as would be associated with a 3rd gen Altima.

As for reliability, its probably as reliable as a 5th gen maxima considering they have the same engine and a less complicated 5 speed transmission. I run my car to the ground, *knocks on wood*, she has been a reliable car with 22,000 in a tad over a year.

As for crashing, I feel fairly safe in the car, I have 6 front cabin air bags, 1 head, 1 side, 1 front for passenger/driver.

But you have to realize you never get the true feel for a car on a test drive or just sitting in it, its about driving a car and pushing it to its limits is when you realize how good a car is, thats probably why I respect this car more then when i bought it. This thing handles awesome and makes good power for a 4 cylinder motor.

Agree with Mike wholeheartedly and to take it even further they should do a one up in the bracket for the Maxima and to to either a Turbo Max or an SC Max straight from the factory.
