Let me correct you. You need more than just an HD-TV to take advantage of Blu-Ray. You need an HDCP compliant HD-TV and they aren't cheap. They are also problematic.

Re: Supply & Demand -PS3

i dont even care about the new technology, i mean its awesome (9 processors in the ps3), i have a ps1 (soon might sell) and an xbox, i dont think its worth that much money to upgrade, id rather wait until they are way cheaper than spend 600+ on a system like that, or build an awesome pc for 800, but thats me

Re: Supply & Demand -PS3

The Playstation 3 doesn't have 9 processors. It has seven cores. Now, dual core processors found in computers is like having two processors on one chip. However, in the Playstation 3 the extra cores don't even have their own cache making them more like co-processors than seperate cores. The new cell processor is a horrible design and is a pain to program for. Developers hate it.

On a side note, I forgot to mention sales figures. A couple of weeks ago I was looking at the latest sales figures and I find it amusing. The 360 has sold 9 million units, granted it has been out over a year. The Wii was in second with just over 2 millions units, it still beat the PS3 even though it was released after. This is where is gets sad, the PS3 had only sold about 800 thousand units.

Pathetic.

Re: Supply & Demand -PS3

The PS3's 3.2 GHz Cell processor, developed jointly by Sony, Toshiba and IBM ("STI"), is an implementation to dynamically assign physical processor cores to do different types of work independently. It has a PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and six accessible 3.2 GHz Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs), a seventh runs in a special mode and is dedicated to OS security, and an eighth disabled to improve production yields (wikipedia.org)

ok, 9 cores, really processors tho, i dont think sony has advanced that far ahead of microsoft, amd , or sun microsystems, sun microsystems has a quad core, but i dont know for sure but thats what i would say

Re: Supply & Demand -PS3

High Bandwidth Content Protection. Blu-Ray & HD-DVD encodes the signal as it leaves and it is decoded at the television to prevent screen captures. It is a form of copy protection.

It should be noted though that you are right about the 9 million but I don't think these charts have the December sales added in yet.
