Spoon engines don't go for $7000... With a core turn in, it would cost around $4500... without a turn in, the most you'll spend is $6300 for a B18C that's blueprinted and balanced by Spoon... Subtract $500 for a B16B (civic type R) engine...

long time no see sparqy
OK ill correct myself its not cost efficient to put it in. For the amount of money you spend putting that motor in your car, you could have built a motor that would bolt in with more power probably for less money |

I live in Japan. I've been to Motegi and have seen these things in action.
In a nutshell ; Spoon engines are basically B16a's and B16b's (JDMCivic TypeR) that have been bored and stroked to 1800cc's. They usually include a knife edged crank, forged rods, domed pistons that increase compression as well as some serious head work. They are usually designed to be NA because of thier use-- road racing-- application here requires durability and endurance. The most I've seen squeezed out of these things NA is about 260hp The cost ranges from $2800-$7500. This doesn't include the Spoon ECU another $1000, exhaust, and intake (see pics below) ignition --Im sure the distributor breaks often-- You'll also need a good clutch transmission, LSD, and a boatload of other things that will require corporate sponsorship to justify thier useage. (forgot to include sales tax) Quite frankly I prefer Mugen. They are Hondas in house tuner. You can order Mugen tuned TypeR's from the dealer in Japan, not only does that sound beautiful, but it comes with a Honda factory backed warranty... |

I didn't state a preference for or against knife edged cranks. You didn't state what kind of racing was being done with stock cranks. Spoon has alot or racers that have won entire circuit championships year after year in Japan, using the spoon "formula". So how can this be bad? I agree that counterwieght is important in a balanced internal assembly, but for which application are you refering to when you say knife edged cranks are unsuitable? What application are you refering to when you say alot of racers? What kind of racing are you refering to?
