There is no replacement for displacement.

You spend 5 grand on your motor for head work, stroking, pistons, etc and do something decent like 300-310 hp with blower. Now, you do 5 grand on my motor and I'll do like 400+ with a blower.

Saying people that have 8s and being bandwagon is calling the kettle pot black. The v6 stangs are the most common. Don't get me wrong, I've had a 6 too but I never thought they were the end all of car performance.

A mustang is a mustang. i4, i6, v6, v8. all are part of our american heritage and all mustangs deserve respect. That having been said, the only real mob potential that the v6 has has going for it, in terms of performance, is the engine swap option.

I know that the v6 is not a slow car, but i also know that you'll never beat a v8 with an equal amount of money spent on performance enhancers. This doesn't mean that i look down on the v6, i just think you guys have high hopes - which isnt a bad thing - just not a correct thing.

There are alot of turbo 4s that'll blow the doors off of stock/close to stock GT, 89 and newer. Turbo > displacement as far as modified vs stock is concerned.

i think a v-8 in a mustang would the best way to go. sure, you can make a v-6 stang pretty fast, but there's no way it can match the low end torque of a v-8, which, imo, is a must for a heavy car like the mustang. a performance minded v-6 in a mustang just doesn't make any sense to me. supercharge that v-8 and wave goodbye to 90% of the cars out there.

I had a v6 for 3 years. I raced a 2001 GT with a 5 speed and I took him the first ten feet.

i don't mean to take anything from ya but taking a car the first 10 feet doesn't say anything other than that you're a better driver. he could have just been burnin out. it's who ends up in front after a longer distance that matters.

He did a burnout. He was drunk.

First off, there have been 2 different V-6s that found their way between the fenders of the Mustang. 2.8L, and 3.8L. The 2.8L popped into the line-up back in 1974 and ran through 1979-80, I'm thinking. The 3.8L was first installed in 1983 I believe, ran from 1983-1986, and was subsequently resurrected in 1994-present.

The V6 isn't the best option for ultra high performance. It's not built particularly strong, and it's drivetrain support is also weaker than the V-8 counterparts. That being said, they're every bit as viable for performance as the Generation I 4.6L GT's until you start throwing 5k+ into them IMHO.

The 94-98 V6 has more aggressive camshafts than the newer cars, but they lack the intake/head combination Ford added to the 99+ cars, which is where the additional hp is coming from.

Low end torque? Not a problem, go with a roots style or twin screw supercharger. Low end torque is the biggest enemy of most driveline components though so I wouldn't recommend a person with a 7.5" and lightweight tranny go for it.

The comments about the V6 Mustang not being a Mustang are absurd, and quite frankly, I don't personally know anybody lame enough to make that suggestion. Without the entry level Mustang, there would be no GT, Mach 1 or Cobra. The V6 is what makes it possible to continue selling the cars.

Anybody who would buy a newer Mustang to be different, regardless of whether or not it's a V6 isn't the brightest bulb on the tree. The Mustang is common.

I really don't know why this topic keeps surfacing all over the place. It never seems to lead anywhere...
