1st of all: Why did you have to dig up a Beetle thread
2nd: Toyota = Lexus, and Lexus= better than Volkswagen, thus Toyota = better than Volkswagen.

I have no clue what the basis for that comparison is, but there is my answer.

Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini. = Volkswagen.
Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini. > Lexus.
Volkswagen. > Toyota.

My 2000 Turbocharged Beetle was just released from the repair shop with a $3400.
bill. Volkswagen had no idea what was wrong--just changed this part than that part.
2nd most unreliable vehicle that I have owned.
Don't waste your money on a"cute" piece of junk!!!!!

i'm a bit lost here, we're going to argue that b/c your car is a lemon, the beetle sucks?

what about the e46 m3s that have been blowing motors?
does that make them all unreliable...

nope...

and vw is still better than toyota...

and silverlotus...
he said he'd rather have the modded awd 6 spd beetle w/500hp from HPA, not just some beetle off the showroom...

wow!

I opted for the 2.0 instead of the unreliable 1.8turbo and I haven't had any major problems with my 2001 New Beetle..

My only issues? A burnt out front bulb (replaced free under warranty)

BUT I only have 10,700 miles on it right now...

BUT take note that my car sits outside instead of a garage and ALWAYS starts regardless of temp! For Example, today it was only 7 degrees Farenheit outside and it started right away...

YES, Japanese auto makers are known for better quality.. I have a Japanese car too BUT I also have to say it is BLAH in personality compared to my New Beetle....

Get what you want.... if you feel the VW is too much of a headache but don't be surprised when the Japanese car feels too utilitarian and doesn't evoke the same emotion or 'fun to drive' feeling!

Beetle

Well guys and gals on the forum, thought i'd better get my bit in here.

I sell VeeDubs, here in the UK, and they sell reasonably well. Ok they might not have that same " thing " as the old air cooled bugs but nevertheless they are pretty hip round here.

We have just got the new Cabriolet ( in the showroom as we speak ), but can't sell it as we can't get another one till December ( WTF ??? )
The 1.6 sells best - mainly cos tha 2.0, 1.8t and V5 versions drink fuel like a thirsty Irish navvy.

So, to recap - We pretty much rate the bug in Manchester and have some fine examples of modified customers cars on foto ( will post when I can get them uploaded for you all to see )

Well gonna go as it's the start of the weekend and I have some Bud's chillin in the fridge.

Re: The New Beetle Kicks A$$

Hi Guys,

Anybody know the trick to changing the headlights on the new bug? I did it once on my daughter's ....boy was that a bad experience...eventually I had to get my neighbour to come over and turn the locking ring while I pushed the headlamps assembly into place....This is progress????
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Barry

Re: The New Beetle Kicks A$$

Look I built a 2000 GLS turbo car for my wife and drove it just to test it and see if there were any problems and I love it. It handles like its on rails, it's damn fast for a 4 cyl and it would whoop my 300 hp caddilac STS in 0-60, ride and it's got more options than the caddi. I also own a 450 hp 71 Camaro, an 85 Monte SS Super Street Stock that runs sideways on dirt @ 90+ mph. How many chicks do ya know that do that!

It always amazes me how people jump to conclusions and post things about a car that they obviously aren't familiar with. If you are gonna slam the car- back it up with facts. Undoubtedly these people dont have any and dont know where to begin to get them.

Just wondering- Why not?
You'd rather have a bunch of reposts instead of ongoing conversations?
