Re: chevy engine in a ford...

It all depends on the motive. People put LS1s in RX7s because lots of those turbo rotarys go boom. Leaving lots of open engine bays. Since LS1s are fairly reliable, have lots of power, and help even out the RX7..it's easy to see why it gets swapped in. A 302 into a Miata is like an SR20 into a Datsun. Ford owns Mazda, Nissan owned Datsun. But I still don't understand why 350s get swapped into 30s ford coupes and other ford hot rods. I'd take an LS1 swapped RX7, an SR20'd Datsun, or hell..even a 302 swapped Miata. But you better believe I'll walk right past a 350 in a ford hotrod. And it's not that I hate chevy. I love 1st gen camaros and 70 chevelles. It's just...wrong.

The technique of dropping a Chevy motor into old Ford's came from:

#1 Flathead Ford V8's what came in them until the 50's are not cheap to build and are not very reliable

#2 The fact that you could build a carbed Chevy motor a lot cheaper than you could a Ford.

But when you start talking about LT-1/LS-1 it starts to make less sense.

What makes no sense at all is dropping a SBC into a Fox-body Stang. there is not one good reason to do this with 302/351W being a dime a dozen. Your just asking for shit here.

but anyway, a lot of the old school "hotrod" guys have been putting Chevy motors in old Ford cars for a long time now. I guess it's the "hotord" thing to do.
Slow, I am still getting my parts in. Just picked up an F cam, and RR. I am doing it on a budget, so I just pick up parts when I can. I did tell you guys I am going blow through, that should be a hoot

Its not that FORD makes crappy engines, its that FORD has engineered a crap head! Chevy heads are a lot better in design, and if you look at the flow rates, that tells the whole story, that and the always use 350, while we try to use a 302 does not help. Are the Chevy's better built, I would say that is a big NO!, Fords are better built, other than the heads.

Re: chevy engine in a ford...

umm well if money is the issue they shouldnt even bother. let them stick to their own kind, like a nova or whatever. sad thing is that they realize that if they are seen in a mustang then people will think they are cool right off the bat, rather than if they are seen in a nova and noone gives a rats ass. if they cant afford ford let them buy a pos chevy!

Well, there would be more, but I do not have the cash right now

I am looking to sell the LX, Jag, and the GTSt so we can get a 2005 or 2006 Mustang.

Still no excuse... you could get a ford 302 cheap enough, low on money but good fabricator and friend has chevy engine... try selling the chevy engine saving money on materials and time needed for customization. Hmmmm let's make more work and spend more money when there is no need.

This is totally different from LS1's in RX-7's and such where those actually have a good reason.

Maybe stock for stock but I would bet any equal level aftermarket SBF head vs aftermarket SBC head are just about the same(sometimes chevy wins, sometimes ford) and most of the time these hot-rods wit Chevy engines don't have stock cast iron units anyway!
