Subwoofa in the car. Yay or nay? (AF poll)

im a rather big fan of my sub. it brings out the bass in the hardcore i usually listen to, which just makes the mix sound more full. the most important thing you can do though is make sure you tune it well. give me the shittiest off brand walmart subs and box you can find. i'll still make it sound decent with the right tuning.

im using a single 12" xplod and a 600 watt amp. nothing fancy, nothing expensive, but it gets the job done, and done nicely. and when i occasionally need to bump the bass a bit (ohhh, alliteration) the power is there without being overwhelming.

Love my subs. My subs are the two round things in my sig. I have a couple of 12" Eclipse subs running off a 1500W amp. Sound great.

Dont' need anything much just enough to get that lower bass that speakers can't get. I've raised my seat 3 inches and set two tens underneath it on each side of my truck, a 900 watt amp right in the middle and then i've got the two dash speakers, and two right beside my head. Tune the treble to the speakers and bass to the subs and I've got pretty good SQ. Not a big fan of the SPL stuff so anything 500 watts is plenty for me, but then again it's in a regular cab truck so there isn't much volume.

I love a bumping sound system in a car but if your gonna install one do it right. I hate seeing a POS car "thumping" down the street but his rattleing trunk is louder than his sound system. Insulate your trunk to keep that rattleing noise to a minium, plus it creates a stronger seal for your subs. Also, take your time when buying speakers, sterero, amps, wires, power booster, etc. Don't buy the crap thats on sale or dirt cheap cause it won't produce. Take your time and do some research. See what amps would best suit the sound system your looking for.

I love the cars, the cars that go BOOM!

But I hate a half assed sound system.

A great set of speakers will make you way happier than slammin subs, I guarantee it. I've gone both routes, and recently removed my subs because they honestly take away from good quality sound. It all depends on whether you want really loud or really clear. You can have both, but that requires lots of money.

Back when I had the Alfa I had a single 12 Inch sub powered by a 500W Amp and it was more than enough for me, certainly picked up some of those lower bass notes that the (rather noisy) V6 drowned out.

So I say absolutely go for it.

i have 2 10'' JL W1 subs in my teg with a pioneer 1000 watt amp pushin em... they sound lovely in the hatch back. i definitely recommend them if you like music!

Bigger doesn't always mean better, might be more expensive but get a set of 10's in most cases it hits a lot harder than 1 single sub.

I've got a 2 12" Kenwood's hooked up to a 4 channel sony 400W amp, going to a good Aiwa deck... Sounds perfect to my ears.. 2 Kenwood 6X9's in the rear, stock 4X9's up front.
