Always good to see your work Slk especially on a great classic subject like this.
And as far as scale luggage is concerned you may want to find the recent Revell reissue of the Aurora Aston Martin DB4. Lots of suitcases to go in the trunk and well detailed ones too.

Suitcases full of illegally smuggled currency between European states by shady foreign exchange speculators?

Re: Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL
Is that the minicraft 1/16th kit? I've seen it at my hobby shop but never seen one in progress. Are they any good?
Nice progress so far, I like the motor.

One final statement from me:
Thank you guys, I won´t visit the forum anymore. You make me spend too much money on kits I see in your projects and which I need to have myself. Thanks again!!

Layla - Thanks for the tip.. off to ebay I go. I got more stuff done, grill opened up with real mesh, battery, etc. Will post pics either tonight or tommorow. The major parts to be done is the engeneering of the parts, as this is a very old tooling and very very speculative fit and finish. The color will likely be slate metallic grey (similar to light gunmetal).

For luggage, you might try checking out the doll house furniture section of your local hobby store, if they have one...

Re: Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL
Thanks, that a good tip, I also ordered Aston Martin DB4 kit, per recomendation, and will try that as well... I scratchbuilt a briefcase last night, but now am waiting for decals (LV) before I paint it.

Re: Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL
Nice work, this is some sweet build. This one and the roadster is two beautiful cars, don't know if they ever built better looking cars before or after these two, IMHO. A little about the subject. There was this article in a Swedish magazine on 300 SL, Gullwing. The owner bought it new and still had it in running condition some 30 years later. He never switched the engine off with the key because of the injection system. He put in second gear, stod on the brakes and released the clutch and stalled the engine. He said that if you turn off the ignition the engine will spin for a short period and the mechanical injection would still pump in fuel. This made it very hard to start again because off all the fuel in the cylinders.
I'll be back as soon as there is more progress! Niclas |
